Manual Content Summary
The model-identification tables define the actual machine coverage. The H-series publication identifies the IT250H as model code 5L4, with frame and engine numbers beginning at 5L4-000101, and the IT465H as 5L5, beginning at 5L5-000101. The L-series volume covers IT250(L) codes 29V and 45J, beginning at 29V-003101 and 45J-000101, together with IT490(L) codes 29W and 45K, beginning at 29W-003101 and 45K-000101. Mechanics can reference carburetor jetting and float specifications, ignition timing, cylinder and piston inspection limits, ring clearances, clutch and transmission limits, fork and shock settings, wheel and brake limits, electrical resistance and output tests, capacities, lubrication points, and engine/chassis tightening torque tables. The values remain separated where the 250, 465, and 490 configurations differ.
Several cautions are especially important during repair. The top-end section warns against hammering the piston pin because the connecting rod, piston, and bearing can be damaged. During crankcase separation, the cases must move apart evenly, and tapping on gasket or machined surfaces can ruin the sealing faces. The L-series De Carbon shock contains high-pressure gas; its cylinder and reservoir must not be opened and are not covered as an internal rebuild procedure. Support the motorcycle securely and follow the publications’ fuel, battery, spring, and pressurized-suspension warnings before engine, chassis, or electrical work.
