Yamaha Manual Features & Content Preview
- Factory manual set and page count: 650 PDF pages total - Yamaha YP125E Service Manual, P/N 5PL-28197-E0: 253 pages; Yamaha/MBK YP125R 2006 Service Manual, P/N 1B9-F8197-E0: 397 pages.
- Exact configuration coverage: The YP125E material identifies model code 5PL1 and engine serial numbering beginning 5PL-000101, with a Mikuni carburetor, automatic choke, electric/kick starting, front disc brake, and rear drum brake. The 2006 YP125R covers model codes 1B91 and 1B92, electronic fuel injection, electric starting, and front and rear hydraulic disc brakes.
- Engine and belt-drive overhaul: Covers engine removal and installation; cylinder head, camshaft, rocker arm, valve, piston, and cylinder service; crankcase and crankshaft work; oil-pump inspection; transmission removal and inspection; and V-belt, clutch, primary-sheave, and secondary-sheave disassembly, inspection, and reassembly.
- Fuel-system repair and diagnosis: Provides YP125E carburetor disassembly, fuel-level adjustment, automatic-choke testing, and vacuum fuel-pump checks. The YP125R manual adds ECU self-diagnosis, diagnostic mode, fault-code tables, sensor and actuator tests, fuel-pressure checks, injector testing, and throttle-body/idle-speed-control procedures.
- Cooling, brakes, and chassis: Details radiator, thermostat, and water-pump service; coolant changing and air bleeding; brake-pad and disc inspection; hydraulic system bleeding; master-cylinder and caliper overhaul; rear drum-brake work for the YP125E; plus wheel balancing, front-fork rebuilding, steering-head service, and swingarm inspection.
- Electrical and diagram support: Includes system-specific circuits and troubleshooting for ignition, charging, starting, lighting, signaling, and cooling, together with full wiring diagrams, cable-routing drawings, component locations, exploded assembly views, and YP125R immobilizer diagnosis and key registration.
Technical Content and Overhaul Data
This set reproduces two factory service publications for distinct 125 cc liquid-cooled scooter configurations, not one generic manual with interchangeable procedures. The YP125E book was produced by Yamaha Motor Taiwan Co., Ltd.; the YP125R book by Yamaha Motor España, S.A. Because both publications state that they were prepared primarily for Yamaha/MBK dealers and qualified mechanics and assume basic scooter-repair knowledge, this set is suited to professional technicians and experienced owners who have the required tools and test equipment.
Each major removal or disassembly section opens with an exploded assembly illustration and a job chart showing parts, sequence references, replacement items, lubricants, and tightening points. The specification chapters organize engine, chassis, and electrical data into component-specific torque tables, general fastener torques, fluid and lubrication data, wear limits, clearances, inspection dimensions, and electrical test values. Those references support accurate repair decisions without treating the two powertrain or brake configurations as interchangeable.
The fuel-system difference is especially important. YP125E coverage centers on the BS26-164 carburetor, CDI/thermo-switch-controlled automatic choke, and vacuum fuel pump. YP125R coverage follows the ECU-controlled injection system through the crankshaft-position, throttle-position, intake-pressure, intake-temperature, coolant-temperature, lean-angle, speed, and oxygen-sensor circuits, along with the injector, fuel pump, and idle-speed-control unit. The YP125R publication also covers immobilizer key-code registration and the registration requirements that follow replacement of related parts; that material does not apply to the carbureted YP125E.
Diagrams, Tools, and Model-Specific Cautions
Named graphics include the YP125E cooling-liquid path diagram, automatic-choke circuit, and full wiring diagram, plus the YP125R fuel-injection wiring diagram, immobilizer system/circuit diagrams, and full 2006 wiring diagram. The manuals also map lubrication points and cable, hose, connector, and harness routing around the frame and engine.
Special-tool listings identify the YP125E fuel-level gauge 90890-01312 and radiator-cap tester/adapter 90890-01325/90890-01352. For the YP125R, the book specifies the FI diagnostic tool 90890-03182 and fuel-pressure gauge/adapter 90890-03153/90890-03181, alongside dedicated tools for crankshaft, clutch, valve, steering, and fork repair.
Both manuals warn against turning the crankshaft during camshaft installation because valve timing can be disturbed and the engine damaged. The YP125R crankcase procedure also limits hammer contact to reinforced case areas; striking the mating faces can damage the sealing surfaces. Brake hydraulics, loaded clutch springs, hot pressurized coolant, and engine-removal work present real injury and vehicle-safety risks, so use the specified holding and measuring tools and defer work beyond your training.
