2005–2013 Hyundai Sonata NF Repair Manual

The G4KC chapter is built for mechanical repair rather than maintenance data alone. Its cylinder-head and block sections document disassembly, inspection, reassembly, and installation, with factory limits for sealing-surface flatness, bores, pistons and rings, crankshaft and connecting-rod bearings, camshafts, valve guides, and valve seats. Component-specific torque tables, sealant locations, lubrication requirements, and fastener-angle procedures support final assembly.

Timing coverage includes component and index views for the camshaft and balance-shaft chains. The manual stresses correct crankshaft, camshaft, and balance-shaft indexing, identifies non-reusable parts, and flags sealing surfaces that can be damaged during teardown. Listed engine tools include the 09231-3K000 flywheel stopper, 09221-4A000 torque-angle adapter, 09222-3K000/09222-3K100 valve-spring set, and dedicated crankshaft seal installers.

The M5GF2 material covers the input and output shafts, differential, shift forks, reverse idler gear, case, and clutch housing. A separate clutch chapter addresses the cover and disc, master cylinder, pedal, inspection, replacement, and adjustment. One important scope note is built into the manual: input-shaft disassembly is supplied as reference material, while assembly replacement is recommended when that unit is faulty.

The F4A42 chapter takes a different approach. It focuses on electronic and hydraulic diagnosis, road testing, torque-converter stall testing, oil-pressure checks, service adjustment, sensor and solenoid faults, and unit removal/installation. It is not arranged as a full internal bench-overhaul manual.

NF Suspension, Steering, and Brake Systems

Brake sections address the booster, pedal, master cylinder, lines, front discs, rear disc and rear drum configurations, parking-brake adjustment, and bleeding. ABS, EBD, and ESP material adds circuit layouts, connector data, wheel-speed and motion-sensor diagnosis, Hi-Scan checks, fault charts, and ESP variant coding.

The driveshaft instructions warn that excessive pulling force can displace joint components, tear the boot, or damage the bearing. They also caution against placing vehicle weight on the wheel bearing while the driveshaft retaining hardware is loose.

ECM, Body Electrical, SRS, and HVAC Diagnosis

The 426-page fuel-system chapter supplies ECM connector and terminal functions, input/output signal data, circuit diagrams, freeze-frame and intermittent-fault guidance, and code-specific troubleshooting for the electronic throttle, CVVT, camshaft and crankshaft sensors, airflow and oxygen sensors, injectors, and fuel-pump controls. Fuel-pressure testing and injector, pump, filter, delivery-pipe, and tank service are included, along with PCV, canister, purge-solenoid, and evaporative-emissions information. Engine Electrical adds spark testing, battery/starting/charging analysis, alternator and starter repair, and cruise-control circuits.

Body Electrical covers ETACS, the cluster, keyless-entry transmitter registration, immobilizer key teaching and limp-home functions, power windows and mirrors, lighting and DRL, headlamp leveling, wipers, defoggers, seats, sunroof, audio, and the back-warning system. The body chapter adds hood, trunk, door and glass, crash-pad, trim, bumper, sunroof, and seat replacement or adjustment procedures.

HVAC coverage includes R-134a recovery, evacuation, charging, leak testing, compressor-oil management, manual and fully automatic control circuits, actuator and sensor checks, self-diagnosis, and DTC charts. SRS material covers the SRSCM, front, side, and curtain airbags, clock spring, impact sensors, pretensioners, Hi-Scan diagnosis, and deployment/disposal tooling. It specifies battery isolation before SRS work and warns against checking inflator-circuit resistance with ordinary test equipment; the A/C section likewise stresses proper refrigerant recovery and moisture control.
