Toyota Supra 1993–1999 Repair Manual Set (P/N RM408U1, RM408U2)

The repair volumes cover vehicle diagnosis and service. Use the wiring manual to trace circuits to their connectors, splices, and grounds, then use the wire harness manual to identify replacement terminals and connector housings. The transmission and collision publications add bench overhaul and body panel repair procedures.

The model-year-specific repair and wiring coverage is for 1995. The wiring manual also references Toyota’s New Car Features publication (NCF109U), a separate companion to this set.

Text search and navigation. All PDFs contain searchable text and embedded bookmarks. Some ignition and automatic transmission bookmarks have unusable destinations. Some connector illustrations in the wiring manual have labels embedded in the artwork. Small pin numbers and wire color codes are easier to read when zoomed in.

Engine, Driveline, and Body Repair

These selected topics show the range of the workshop coverage. The files also include scheduled maintenance and starter and charging system checks.

• Engine mechanical. Compression, valve clearance, and ignition timing checks, plus timing belt service, cylinder head work, and engine removal and installation.

• Fuel, emissions, and turbocharging. Separate 2JZ-GE and 2JZ-GTE SFI, emissions, ignition, and troubleshooting sections, with sequential turbocharger testing for the 2JZ-GTE.

• Transmission and driveline. A340E on-vehicle diagnosis and bench overhaul, W58 internal repair, V160 service, clutch work, propeller shaft inspection, and rear differential overhaul.

• Brakes, suspension, and steering. GE and GTE brake procedures include bleeding, hydraulic tests, master cylinder and caliper service, and ABS/TRAC diagnosis. Chassis coverage includes alignment, hub and axle service, and power steering overhaul.

• Electrical, HVAC, and body service. System wiring, SRS diagnosis, R134a air conditioning, cruise control, theft deterrent, power windows, combination meters, glass, and Sport Roof service.

• Collision repair. Panel cutting, welding, and replacement for normal-roof and Sport Roof bodies, with body dimension drawings and locations for sealer, foam, and corrosion protection.

The factory procedures are written for experienced technicians and identify the special tools, gauges, and materials needed for the work.

Engine Testing and Overhaul

The mechanical section documents cylinder head disassembly and inspection, valve shim selection, and cylinder block inspection and overhaul. Cooling and lubrication chapters cover component service and pressure checks. The turbo chapter pairs low boost, abnormal noise, and oil consumption with checks for the pressure tank, turbocharger assembly, and intercooler.

The GE and GTE diagnostic sections cover trouble code retrieval, fail-safe operation, Toyota hand-held tester and break-out box use, ECM terminal readings, and intermittent fault simulation.

Transmission Testing and Bench Work

Separate A340E procedures for the GE and GTE cover shift-lock service, road tests, stall and time-lag checks, hydraulic testing, and manual shift tests. The unit repair file covers the oil pump, clutch and brake packs, one-way clutches, planetary gears, housings, and upper and lower valve bodies for A340E (2JZ-GTE) and A340E (Others). Its A340H and A340F material is limited to service specifications.

Exploded views and service tables identify non-reusable parts, bearing and race orientation, snap-ring positions, clutch disc stacking, and valve body spring and check-ball locations. The overhaul procedure flags the risk of sending debris into the valve body when the case is turned over after oil pan removal.

The W58 section covers shafts, synchronizers, counter gear, reverse idler, and housing work. V160 coverage is limited to troubleshooting, removal and installation, oil seals, the speed sensor O-ring, and specifications.

Circuit Diagnosis and Body Service

The Supra wiring diagrams show power distribution, relay and connector locations, and grounds for engine control, electronically controlled transmission, ABS/TRAC, SRS, Progressive Power Steering, radiator fan, and automatic A/C circuits. The companion harness book shows how to replace terminals and repair wires and connectors, with housing illustrations and part numbers to match replacement pieces.

The A/C section covers pressure diagnosis, leak checks, evacuation and charging, control-panel self-diagnosis, and compressor, evaporator, heater core, and actuator service. The collision manual shows quarter-panel cut lines, weld points, and body dimensions. Painting procedures are outside its scope.

Use proper support and isolation equipment and follow Toyota’s system-specific precautions for transmission removal, brake and TRAC bleeding, R134a service, SRS work, and collision welding.

A Look at Line Pressure and Differential Runout Specs

For the 2JZ-GTE A340E, the hydraulic test specifies 471–530 kPa (68–77 psi) of line pressure in Drive at idle with the fluid at 50–80°C. The diagnostic table uses a pressure drop in Drive alone to narrow the check to the Drive circuit or forward clutch.

For rear differential inspection, the maximum ring gear runout is 0.08 mm for the 2JZ-GTE with a manual transmission and 0.05 mm for the other configurations covered.
