Canon U.S.A. issued this 2006 service manual for the PIXMA MP810 and MP960 multifunction photo printers. Canon identifies it as reference material for Authorized Service Facilities; its board-replacement routines, internal access coverage, and service-mode controls make it best suited to technicians already familiar with inkjet MFP repair. Before internal service, disconnect AC power and allow stored charge to dissipate. The LCD, scanner, operation panel, and logic board also require static protection.

Service-Part Replacement and Calibration

Repair coverage centers on service-part replacement and the settings required afterward. The logic-board procedure covers EEPROM initialization, destination selection, ink-absorber data entry, automatic head-alignment sensor correction, ink-system checking, LF/eject correction, button and LCD testing, and final user-mode alignment. Separate entries connect carriage, platen, paper-feed motor, scanner/FAU, document pressure sheet, timing-film, and print-head replacement to the required adjustments and verification prints.

The red carriage-shaft screws are not service-adjustable; loosening them can disturb print-head positioning with no repair adjustment available. Timing slit strip and disk films must not be bent or contaminated with grease, since damage or fouling can produce encoder faults, carriage or line-feed trouble, and enlarged output.

Error Codes, Cleaning Logic, and EEPROM Records

The diagnostic tables separate operator calls from cyclic-blink service calls and tie each condition to likely assemblies. For the waste-ink system, 1700/1701 is the almost-full warning, while 5B00 identifies a full main absorber on overseas models and 5B01 identifies the Japan version. A full absorber requires kit replacement and a counter reset. During logic-board replacement, Canon calls for absorber replacement when the existing counter is 7% or higher; below that point, the current value is transferred to the new board.

Service-test and EEPROM print sections explain how to verify alignment, nozzle output, line-feed and eject correction, destination, ink-system status, recent errors, purge counts, absorber level, page counts, head and tank replacements, scan and copy use, and remaining-ink detection status. MP810 vs. MP960 Technical Coverage

The specifications distinguish the five-tank MP810 print head, P/N QY6-0067-000 with 4,608 nozzles, from the seven-tank MP960 head, P/N QY6-0062-000 with 3,584 nozzles. The MP960 adds photo cyan and photo magenta, and the manual warns that Japan-market and overseas ink-tank families are not interchangeable.
