This is a compiled manual set rather than one continuous Yamaha publication. It is therefore best suited to trained technicians or experienced owners who have the required tools and test equipment.
How the Service Material Fits Together
The earlier 350 coverage is built around the YFM350FX base service manual, referenced internally as Manual No. 4KB-28197-20, with separate model-year update sections. These supplements revise specifications, cable routing, brake adjustments, steering details, ignition testing, and wiring information where the later machines differ from the base configuration.
Later 350 data is carried through the YFM350AS supplement 5WH-F8197-10 / LIT-11616-17-33 and the YFM35XV supplement 3D5-F8197-10 / LIT-11616-19-80. The YFM35XV foreword specifically directs the mechanic to use those supplements with the YFM400FAR base manual 5TE-F8197-10 / LIT-11616-16-02 for complete procedures. The two supplements are present in this PDF, but a complete 5TE base service manual is not. This is an important limitation for buyers working on the YFM35XV configuration.
The 450 portion combines the YFM450FAR base material, referenced as Manual No. 5ND-F8197-10, with YFM45FXV-specific changes. The two owner’s manuals are separate references for controls, pre-operation inspections, riding safety, routine maintenance, cleaning, storage, and basic troubleshooting; they do not replace the workshop repair sections.
Model-Specific Repair and Diagnostic Depth
The specifications should not be treated as interchangeable across the set. The 350 material covers the 348 cm³ engine family, while the YFM45FXV supplement identifies a liquid-cooled 421 cm³ single-cylinder engine with a V-belt automatic transmission. Model-code-specific tables address the related carburetion, cooling, drivetrain, chassis, and electrical differences.
Troubleshooting is organized by symptoms such as starting failure, poor idle or high-speed performance, drivetrain noise, hard shifting, clutch slip or drag, overheating, weak braking, shock-absorber malfunction, unstable handling, and lighting faults. Electrical procedures use continuity, resistance, voltage, and spark testing to isolate faults before parts are replaced.
Diagrams, Tools, and Repair Cautions
Named visual references include the YFM350AS Wiring Diagram, YFM35XV 2006 Wiring Diagram, YFM450FAR Wiring Diagram, YFM45FXV 2006 Wiring Diagram, coolant-flow diagrams, and oil-flow diagrams. Specified tools include the crankshaft installer pot and bolt, 90890-01274 and 90890-01275; the crankcase separating tool, YU-01135-A / 90890-01135; and the pocket tester, YU-03112-C / 90890-03112. The crankshaft and crankcase sections pair these jobs with dedicated tools because improvised methods can damage shafts, bearings, or sealing surfaces. Differential and final-drive procedures also require measured gear lash and correct shim selection; guessed or mixed shimming can damage the gear contact surfaces.
Follow the manual’s precautions for supporting the ATV, handling fuel, servicing brakes, isolating the battery, and opening a hot cooling system. Internal-engine, brake, driveline, and electrical repairs should not be attempted beyond the mechanic’s training or available equipment.
