How the Two Manuals Work Together
The DN/DNC publication is a true supplement, not a stand-alone mechanical manual. Yamaha directs technicians to use it with the XC180K/XC180KC service manual. Both publications are included here, placing the engine, transmission, carburetor, and chassis repair chapters alongside the DN/DNC electrical procedures and revised specification tables. The base book is the January 1983 first edition; the supplement is the May 1984 first edition.

Mechanical Repair and System Coverage
The base manual explains the Riva 180's air-cooled four-stroke OHV single, including its 90-degree twisted pushrod layout, hydraulic valve lifters, counterbalancer, automatic V-belt transmission, and torque-cam downshift system.
