Yamaha CV80K/CV80N 1983–1987 Scooter Service Manual Set (P/N LIT-11616-03-63)

The CV80N supplement is not a stand-alone replacement manual. Yamaha specifies using it with the included CV80K Service Manual for complete service information.

Match the scooter’s model code, engine identification and installed configuration before selecting procedures or specifications. The supplement provides revised maintenance data, electrical troubleshooting and CV80N specifications.

Search and diagram navigation: Searchable text is available across the main service sections, although some illustration labels and the appended color wiring diagram are not searchable. Embedded bookmarks cover both publications; the supplement’s “Wiring Diagram” bookmark opens the CV80K color diagram. Small labels on the checked circuit diagrams are readable when enlarged; the color diagram becomes pixelated at higher magnification.

Engine, V-Belt Drive and Electrical Service

• Engine repair: Step-by-step procedures for engine removal and installation, cylinder and piston inspection, crankcase separation, crankshaft installation and CDI magneto service.

• Drive and starting mechanisms: Primary and secondary sheave inspection, centrifugal-clutch service, transmission disassembly, starter-clutch checks and kick-starter repair.

Yamaha wrote these publications primarily for its dealers and qualified mechanics and assumes a basic understanding of mechanical repair procedures.

Carburetion and Model-Specific Systems

The base manual explains the electric fuel meter, variable-ratio V-belt drive, Yamaha “Vibeless” link engine mounting, energy-saving S.E. carburetor and START/RUN ignition control system. Its auto-choke section shows how the B.V.S. valve, fuel cock and carburetor respond to cylinder-head temperature.

Configuration differences: The CV80K specifications identify a Mikuni VM13SS carburetor and NGK BP7HS spark plug; the CV80N supplement lists a Mikuni VM16 and BP8HS plug. Keeping these configurations separate helps match service data to the components installed on the scooter.

Engine and Drive Assembly References

Inspection material covers cylinder wear, piston clearance, piston-ring condition, crankshaft runout and connecting-rod play. The primary and secondary sheave material explains centrifugal-weight operation and includes clutch-housing, lining, spring and V-belt inspection criteria.

Assembly limits and cautions: Yamaha treats the primary sheave complete as a non-serviceable assembly that must be replaced if disassembled. An inverted clutch-housing oil seal can leak, while the drive-axle serrations can turn over the transmission oil-seal lip during installation.

Oil and grease must be kept off the V-belt, sheave faces, clutch-housing friction surface and clutch linings.

Electrical Fault Isolation and Diagrams

The CV80N ignition troubleshooting chart includes checks for the ignition control unit, sidestand switch and sidestand control unit. This separates interlock-related faults from spark-plug, ignition-coil, pickup/source-coil and CDI-unit checks.

The charging section includes rectifier testing and warns that overcharging, short circuits or reversed battery polarity can damage the silicon rectifier. The manual’s safety notes address battery gas and acid hazards as well as ventilation during engine-running tests.

Illustrated references: The CV80K Circuit Diagram and CV80N Circuit Diagram support electrical fault tracing. Mechanical references include the Primary Sheave–Secondary Sheave–Clutch, Crankcase–Crankshaft, Front Wheel–Front Brake and Front Fork exploded views.

Cable-routing pages show the harness, brake and throttle cables, CDI leads, fuel and vacuum pipes, and battery breather. The appended color wiring diagram is labeled CV80K.

Special Tools and Workshop Data

Yamaha identifies the YU-01135 crankcase separator, YM-01189 flywheel puller and YU-90050 crankshaft installation set with YU-90063 crank adapter. Clutch tooling includes YS-28891 and YM-04045A; the reference list also includes the YU-01268 steering nut wrench, YU-03112 pocket tester and YU-33261 coil tester.

Component torque tables, wear limits, lubrication guides and electrical test specifications accompany the procedures. Several settings differ between the adjustment instructions and appendix tables, so their model and section context matters.

Clutch and Charging Specification Examples

The clutch-stall specification changes from 3,500 ± 300 r/min in the CV80K maintenance table to 4,200 ± 300 r/min in the CV80N supplement. These are stall specifications, separate from clutch-engagement speed.

For charging-system reference, both models’ flywheel-magneto specification tables list 0.6 ohms ± 20% at 20°C (68°F) between White and Black. This charging winding is separate from the CDI source coil.
