Yamaha Manual Features & Content Preview
- Model and variant coverage: The base service manual is titled for SRX700D / SRX700SD and identifies the standard and S models in its tables as SRX700 / SRX700S, model codes 8DN / 8DW. The supplement adds SRX700G / SRX700SG data and updates the table codes to 8DN5 / 8DW5.
- 294-page PDF manual set: 235-page Yamaha Service Manual, Literature No. LIT-12618-02-09, Service Manual No. 8DN-28197-10 (1st edition, June 1999), plus the 59-page Supplementary Service Manual, Literature No. LIT-12618-02-23, Manual No. 8DN-28197-15 (1st edition, June 2001).
- Covers engine removal and installation, cylinder-head, cylinder, and piston work, crankcase and crankshaft inspection, oil-pump service, AC magneto and recoil starter repair, YPVS disassembly and adjustment, cooling-system testing, carburetor synchronization, fuel-level and TPS adjustment, and fuel-pump diagnosis.
- Details primary and secondary clutch repair, sheave distance and offset, V-belt and engagement checks, high-altitude clutch and gear selection, drive-chain housing and jackshaft service, hydraulic brake caliper and master-cylinder repair and bleeding, slide-rail suspension, front axle and track, steering, skis, and front suspension.
- Provides full wiring diagrams and system circuit diagrams for ignition, lighting, signal, grip and thumb warmers, YPVS, and G/SG detonation control, backed by component tests, no-spark and system troubleshooting, fault-location tables, connector identification, and cable-routing views.
- Includes exploded assembly views, model-specific torque and maintenance tables, capacities, wear limits, clearances, high-altitude settings, electrical test values, and Yamaha special-tool numbers for clutch, sheave, cooling, fuel, suspension, and YPVS work.
Base Manual Repair Coverage
The 235-page base volume moves from machine identification and scheduled inspection into full workshop repair. Engine procedures cover removal and installation, top-end service, piston and cylinder inspection, crankshaft runout, crankcase assembly checks, oil-system bleeding, and cooling-system service. Carburetion chapters add separation and assembly, synchronization, float and fuel-level setting, throttle position sensor adjustment, and fuel-pump testing.
Power-train coverage goes well beyond belt replacement. The manual breaks down the primary and secondary sheaves for inspection of weights, rollers, bushings, springs, and torque-cam parts, then continues through the drive-chain housing, jackshaft, hydraulic brake, slide-rail suspension, front axle, and track. The chassis chapters cover steering, skis, and front suspension. SRX700S-specific material includes front-shock spring-preload and damping-force adjustment.
Exploded views are tied to parts order, inspection points, reassembly notes, and component-specific specifications. Useful examples include the primary sheave and drive V-belt, secondary sheave, brake caliper and master cylinder, cylinder and piston group, YPVS valve housing and servo cables, and carburetors. This is dealer-level repair documentation rather than a basic owner's maintenance guide.
G/SG Supplement and Electrical Differences
The 59-page supplement is not a standalone manual. Yamaha directs the mechanic to use it with the D/SD base volume and reprints only new or revised data. Its major changes include DC-CDI ignition, the knock-sensor detonation-control system and indicator light, revised main-switch and headlight-relay information, separate grip and thumb warmer variable-resistor tests, updated fault-light patterns, revised YPVS adjustment, clutch and high-altitude data, cable routing, and the G/SG wiring diagram. Unchanged engine, chassis, and power-train procedures remain in the base manual.
Electrical diagnosis is organized around the diagrams, not left as a wire-color reference alone. The chapters pair each circuit with continuity or resistance checks, component test points, symptom-based troubleshooting, and a fault-location table that uses warning-light flash patterns to isolate sensor, servomotor, warmer, voltage, and knock-sensor faults.
Factory Tools, Specifications, and Repair Notes
The special-tool section identifies the YS-42421-1 sheave gauge, YS-39962 primary sheave puller, YS-28890-B clutch spider separator, YU-24460-01 cooling-system tester, and the YS-43092 / YS-43092-1 YPVS adjustment couplers. Separate SRX700S tools—8DE-23703-00 and 4PU-28135-00—cover front-shock damping and spring-preload adjustment. Specification chapters consolidate engine, power-train, chassis, and electrical inspection data, component-specific torque sections, high-altitude settings, cable routing, approved fluids, capacities, and wear limits.
Two manual-specific repair cautions are especially important. Yamaha warns that using the wrong YPVS adjustment coupler on the G/SG system can damage the CDI unit. The carburetor tuning section also requires the intake silencer to remain installed; operating without it can create a lean mixture and severe engine damage. Securely support the snowmobile and isolate the engine and electrical system before clutch, track, suspension, brake, or engine repair; allow exhaust and coolant components to cool before opening them.
