- Model-code coverage is defined inside the manuals: 4UC1 for markets other than CH/A, 4UD1 for CH/A, and YP250M 5GM7. The 5GM-AE1 foreword also calls for the separate YP250(K) '98 4UC-AE2 and YP250D '98 5DF-AE1 supplements; those two publications are not included in this set.

4UC-AE1 Base Procedures
The 4UC-AE1 manual carries the base procedures for 4UC1 and 4UD1 machines. It starts with vehicle, frame, engine, and model-label identification; oil-indicator operation, resetting, and failure diagnosis; auto-choke logic; and the sidestand ignition circuit cut-off system. Its specification chapter supplies engine, chassis, and electrical data together with component-specific torque tables, lubricant information, cable-routing drawings, capacities, clearances, wear limits, and electrical test values.
Periodic service is treated as shop work rather than a brief maintenance checklist. The manual covers panel and fuel-tank access, valve-clearance and idle adjustment, throttle-cable setup, ignition-timing checks, compression and oil-pressure testing, engine and transmission oil service, coolant replacement, hydraulic-brake bleeding, steering-head inspection, tire and wheel checks, battery service, and headlight adjustment.
Internal engine sections use exploded views, numbered job charts, inspection criteria, and assembly notes. Cylinder-head repair continues through camshaft, rocker-arm, valve, valve-seat, piston, and ring work. The drivetrain chapter handles the V-belt, clutch carrier, roller weights, primary and secondary sheaves, A.C. magneto, starter clutch, oil pump, transmission, crankcase, and crankshaft.
Cooling-system repair covers the radiator, water pump, and thermostat. The carburetion chapter includes disassembly, reassembly, fuel-level adjustment, auto-choke inspection, and the base model's vacuum fuel-pump test. Chassis coverage extends from wheel bearings, brake-disc inspection, and static balancing to the rear wheel and drum brake, master-cylinder and caliper overhaul, front-fork service, handlebar and steering work, and swingarm and shock-absorber removal.
Symptom tables connect hard starting, poor idle, clutch faults, overheating, weak braking, fork leakage, unstable handling, starter failure, and lighting or signal faults to the appropriate inspection areas. That makes the troubleshooting chapter useful before parts are removed or electrical components are condemned.
5GM-AE1 YP250M Changes
The 5GM-AE1 supplement records changed service data for model code 5GM7. Its pages update body-panel removal, cable routing, maintenance schedules, cylinder-head and CVT information, transmission details, crankcase and crankshaft work, radiator and carburetor layouts, and rear-wheel and swingarm assemblies. Distinct 5GM7 systems include air induction, throttle-position-sensor adjustment, the front-wheel speed sensor and pressed-in sensor rotor, and an electric fuel pump controlled through the ignitor unit and fuel-pump relay.
The special-tool lists identify the equipment needed for the covered repair work. Examples include valve-adjusting tool 90890-01311, clutch-spring compressor 90890-01337 with holder arm 90890-01464, secondary-sheave oil-seal guide 90890-01384, and the YP250M crankcase-separating tool 90890-01135. The supplement also lists the matching crankshaft installer components instead of treating crankshaft installation as a generic press operation.
Electrical fault tracing is organized around switch positions, terminal continuity, test specifications, and decision charts. Named diagrams include the ignition, charging, electric-starting, cooling, and fuel-pump circuits, together with the full-model wiring diagrams at the end of both publications. The YP250 2000 diagram identifies the throttle-position sensor, speed sensor, fuel-pump relay, seat switch, box light, clock, and optional grip-warmer circuit.
The model differences matter when selecting repair information. The base specification describes a rear drum brake and vacuum fuel pump; the 5GM7 data describes a rear disc brake and electric fuel pump. Because 4UC-AE2 and 5DF-AE1 are referenced by Yamaha but are not part of this two-PDF set, 5GM-AE1 should not be treated as a standalone replacement for every earlier supplement.
Several cautions show where improper assembly can damage parts. The YP250M front-wheel speed sensor is non-serviceable, and metal contact or debris in the hub can damage the sensor or rotor. In the base cooling chapter, careless impeller-shaft installation can damage the water-pump oil-seal lip or displace its spring. A steering bearing race fitted out of square can damage the head pipe.
Brake-hydraulic repair, hot cooling-system work, gasoline-system testing, and compressed clutch-spring service require the scooter to be securely supported and the manual's warnings and specified tools to be followed.
