1988 John Deere 410B, 410C, 510B, 510C Backhoe Loaders Operation and Test Manual (P/N TM-1468)

John Deere TM-1468 (Oct-88) covers operation and testing for the 1988 410B, 410C, 510B, and 510C backhoe loaders, including MFWD and extendible dipperstick configurations. This is the Operation and Test volume; component repair and overhaul are covered separately in TM-1469. Together, those two publications replaced TM-1364.

Engine Tests and Timing Tools

Engine diagnostic charts address hard starting, smoke, overheating, and loss of power. Testing extends to crankshaft end play, valve lift, fuel-transfer-pump pressure, intake leakage, and radiator airflow.

The engine cross-section identifies internal components. Static timing instructions specify the JDE81-1 flywheel turning tool and JDE-81-4 timing pin.

B- and C-Series Electrical Systems

B-series material includes ROPS and cab electrical schematics and pictorial diagrams. C-series coverage adds display-monitor and logic-module circuits, connector and ground locations, wire-routing descriptions, and tachometer calibration.

Reverser, Transaxle, and Brake Diagnosis

The Reverser Test Procedure Chart brings together shift, cooler, lubrication, and converter-circuit readings. A Torque Converter and Reverser Hydraulic System Schematic traces the oil paths, while the MFWD differential section explains equal- and unequal-traction operation.

The PDF contains two torque-converter stall-speed tables with different 510B limits. Brake coverage includes valve and brake-element leakage checks to support repair diagnosis.

Hydraulic Pump and Control-Valve Variants

Separate theory sections cover the B-series main pump and the C-series 3000 series radial piston pump. Cessna and Gresen loader valves, steering priority-valve operation, and the Husco auxiliary valve for the extendible dipperstick are documented.

Early and late B-series loader spools use different metering arrangements. The 410B neutral-leakage test also distinguishes machines through S/N 717919 from S/N 717920 onward, with different test hardware.
