This Land Rover workshop manual, P/N LRL0326ENG, covers the 1995–1999 Range Rover P38 with 4.0 V8, 4.6 V8 and BMW diesel engines. Published in 1999, it combines Volumes 1 and 2 and supersedes Workshop Manual VDR100370 and Body Repair Manual LRL0085.

Engine work: The diesel chapter includes piston, connecting-rod and crankshaft inspection, cylinder-head work and oil-pump overhaul. Its piston-cleaning cautions explain how removing deposits from the skirts can destroy their graphite coating.

V8 head-gasket and timing-chain repair procedures are specifically identified for 1999 specification onward. Earlier V8 description and operation points to the separate 4.0/4.6 V8 Engine Overhaul Manual, which is not included here.

Injection and tuning: Sagem–Lucas GEMS 8.2 and Bosch Motronic M5.2.1 receive separate component descriptions, diagnostic information and Engine Management System Schematics. Diesel injection-pump timing procedures identify gauge holder LRT-12-121 and flywheel timing pin LRT-12-108.

R380, ZF and Borg Warner Service

The Transfer Box Control Schematic supports the high/low-range operating descriptions and ratio-control motor service. The separately referenced Borg Warner Overhaul Manual is not included.

EAS, ABS and Steering

TestBook is specified for EAS depressurization and calibration after ECU or height-sensor replacement. The pneumatic circuit diagram follows the compressor, dryer and valve-block circuits; the pipe-service cautions identify connection damage that can cause leaks.

Brake booster/ABS modulator hydraulic diagrams distinguish the earlier and revised systems. The text explains C-series and D-series ABS controllers and their different traction-control configurations, alongside accumulator precharge testing and steering pressure checks.

The manual specifies replacement of the brake booster/ABS modulator for internal failure, with separate procedures for the reservoir and seals. Pressurized suspension and brake work require the manual's system-specific safety precautions.

BeCM, SRS and HeVAC Diagnostics

The BeCM Control Schematic and connector tables document body-system interfaces, while separate GEMS, Motronic and diesel remobilization descriptions help identify the correct module-pairing requirements before ECM or BeCM replacement. SRS coverage distinguishes single-point sensing from distributed crash-sensor systems.

Electrical scope: The introduction specifies Electrical Troubleshooting Manual LRL0329 and Electrical Circuit Diagrams YVB101590, second edition, as companion publications. They are not included in this download.

HeVAC sections combine mechanical fault charts, servo procedures and TestBook initialization requirements. Ambient-temperature sensor repairs are separated at VIN 381430/381431, helping match the procedure to the installed arrangement. Bulb specifications and variant-specific refrigerant charge tables are also included.

Examples of BeCM Current and Glow-Plug Test Data

The BeCM operating description specifies module consumption of 30 mA in sleep mode with the vehicle unlocked, or 40 mA with the alarm armed.

For the BMW diesel's Beru glow plugs, the tuning data lists resistance of 0.4–0.6 ohms at 20°C.
