Ford 2000, 3000, 4000 & 5000 Tractor Operator's Handbook (SE 3112)

This UK Ford Operator's Handbook, marked SE 3112 and printed in January 1969, covers operation and routine maintenance of Ford 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 diesel tractors. Agricultural versions of all four models are included; Highway, Narrow, and Vineyard coverage applies to the 2000 and 3000.

Diesel Engine and Fuel-System Service

Fuel-system bleeding views in Figures G3–G4 and C.A.V. and Simms pump-timing drawings in Figures G5–G6 accompany the service procedures. Distinguishing the distributor-type C.A.V. pump from the in-line Simms pump helps you select the appropriate reference before fuel-system repair.

Valve-adjustment instructions distinguish the three-cylinder engines from the four-cylinder 5000. Injector coverage includes removal, replacement, and sealing washers; injector testing is referred to a Ford dealer.

Hydraulics and Implement Connections

Hydraulic specifications distinguish engine-driven piston pumps from PTO-driven gear pumps, including the Ford 4000's different arrangements for Transmission and Independent PTO. The operating section explains the 5000's auxiliary-service arrangement separately from the other models.

Remote control valve coverage includes single- and double-spool versions, with or without detents, for operating external cylinders. Implement attachment views in Figures D1–D2 show the linkage and lift-rocker arrangements.

The accessory swinging drawbar and automatic pick-up hitch share support points on the 2000 and 3000, so both cannot be installed at the same time. Their installation and adjustment details are covered in the options section.

The hydraulic operating notes explain how holding an external cylinder against the end of its stroke can damage the relief valve. Never work beneath an implement supported only by the tractor hydraulics.

Clutch, Brakes, and Wheel Setup

Transmission, Live, and Independent PTO arrangements have separate clutch data. Footbrake procedures distinguish the expanding-shoe brakes on the 2000 and 3000 from the disc brakes on the 4000 and 5000; transmission-type and rear-wheel-type handbrakes receive separate adjustment instructions.

The front hub exploded view in Figure G7 supports bearing removal, inspection, and repacking. Track-adjustment diagrams distinguish Agricultural, Highway, Narrow, and Vineyard layouts. The options section also covers power-adjusted rear wheels, wheel weights, and belt pulley installation.

Starting, Instruments, and Lighting

You get straightforward procedures for starting, driving, and shutdown, plus dash-instrument and warning-light explanations. Cold-weather starting aids include Thermostart and the separate ether-start accessory, with a specific warning against using them together.

Lighting service distinguishes standard fuse protection, wide-fender fuse boxes, and the cartridge fuses used on indicator-equipped tractors without wide fenders. Figures G15–G16 locate the accessory terminal and fuse holders. Bulb replacement, light-switch positions, and circuit identification are included; electrical wiring diagrams are not.

Maintenance and Repair Scope

Service schedules cover engine and hydraulic fluids, filters, cooling-system care, and tractor storage. Capacity and lubricant tables distinguish model and PTO configuration, alongside thermostat specifications and tire-ballasting limits.

This is an operation and maintenance handbook with selected adjustment and component-replacement procedures. It does not contain internal engine, injection-pump, or transmission repair procedures.

Optional Section K (Select-O-Speed) and Section L (gasoline engines) are not included in this PDF, although both are listed in the original contents.
