Transaxle Selection and Drive Diagnosis

The three-speed and four-speed transaxles are not interchangeable. Separate cutaway and exploded views show their gearsets, differentials, shifter assemblies, bearings, and seals.

The clutch, brake, and variator form one interacting adjustment system. The linkage diagrams help relate poor low-speed travel or incorrect pedal movement to the relevant adjustment checks.

Cylinder scope: The Cessna hydraulic cylinder is a welded, non-serviceable assembly. The manual covers replacement rather than internal rebuilding.

Hydraulic test-equipment references include the OTC Y-81-2-1 pressure tester and Y-90 in-line tester. Contaminated oil can score the pump diaphragm and body; the manual connects this damage to pressure loss.

Electrical Diagrams and Chassis Details

Serial-specific illustrations include Wiring Schematic (-3550), Wiring Schematic (3551-15000), and Electrical System Wiring Diagram (15001-). Charging-system chapters add bench tests, armature inspection, and regulator adjustments for qualified mechanics using appropriate electrical test equipment.

Vacuum and Valve-Clearance Examples

The crankcase-vacuum procedures specify 5–10 inches of water column for the Kohler K161S/K181S and 7–12 inches for the Tecumseh HH100. Both tests use a warmed engine running at 1,200–1,700 rpm.

For cold valve-clearance checks, the HH100 specification table lists 0.010 inch for both intake and exhaust valves. These examples show the engine-specific test and adjustment data provided alongside the repair procedures.
