In the differential chapter, the factory-assembled gear unit is not meant to be split, the gear-motor check does not use 12-volt battery power, and the temporary ring-gear holding bolt is only finger-tight—ignoring those limits can damage the gearset or leave the 2WD/differential-lock indication out of index. The brake chapters caution against operating a lever or pedal with its caliper removed because the pads will be driven shut.
