This is Honda’s model-specific factory repair manual for the Rune, not an owner’s handbook. It is written for qualified professional technicians and assumes basic Honda motorcycle maintenance knowledge, shop training, special tools, and dedicated test equipment. Most sections open with a system or assembly illustration, followed by service data, troubleshooting, and the applicable removal, inspection, repair, reassembly, and adjustment procedures.
Repair Scope: In-Frame Work vs. Engine-Out Service
The engine-removal chapter defines what can remain in the frame. The throttle bodies and injectors, water pump and thermostat, cylinder heads and valves, clutch, most of the gearshift linkage, alternator, ignition pulse generator, and starter motor can be serviced in place. Oil-pump work, primary gears and output shaft, the transmission and gearshift spindle, and crankcase, piston, connecting-rod, and crankshaft repair require engine removal. Transmission and bottom-end work also require crankcase separation.
Internal-engine coverage includes compression diagnosis, camshaft and cam-chain removal and installation, cylinder-head disassembly, valve-guide replacement, valve-seat inspection and refacing, color-code bearing selection, piston and connecting-rod work, crankshaft installation, and crankcase sealing. Separate chapters handle the clutch master and slave cylinders, clutch pack, primary drive, transmission, and shaft final drive. PGM-FI, Electrical, and Security Diagnosis

Manual-Specific Repair Cautions
Honda warns that the throttle bores have a molybdenum coating: commercial carburetor cleaner or mishandling can damage the surfaces and upset throttle and idle synchronization. Crankpin and main-journal bearing inserts are select-fit and color coded; mixing their locations or selecting the wrong clearance can cause major engine damage.
Fuel-system work calls for pressure relief with the ignition off and a well-ventilated, spark-free work area. The clutch and combined-brake chapters require fresh DOT 4 fluid, protection of painted, plastic, and rubber surfaces, and bleeding whenever a hydraulic circuit has been opened.
