For the 4G63, 4G64, and 4D56, the chassis manual concentrates on on-vehicle inspection and adjustment plus removal and installation of major assemblies. It does not replace the separate internal engine and transmission overhaul publications named in the foreword. The included 4M40 manual is different: it goes inside the engine, covering the cylinder head and valve train, timing gears and balance shaft, oil pump, pistons and connecting rods, crankshaft and crankcase, turbocharger, injection nozzles, and injection pump. The L200 model tables in PWTE96E1 list 4G63, 4G64, and 4D56 rather than 4M40, so check the engine code before purchasing specifically for 4M40 repair work.

A few procedures are especially sensitive to setup. On the 4D56 timing system, tightening the tensioner fasteners in the wrong order can leave the belt over-tensioned. For 4D56 Step III cylinder-head work, gasket thickness is selected from piston projection, which changes when pistons or connecting rods are replaced. SRS service requires at least a 60-second wait after battery disconnection, and only the specified test equipment should be used around airbag circuits to prevent unintended deployment.
