Mitsubishi Manual Features & Content Preview

  • Built around the 1997 L200 chassis workshop manual with 1998-2002 model-year updates, covering K62T, K64T, K75T, and K74T families in single cab, double cab, club cab, and cab-and-chassis configurations, with 2WD/4WD and manual or automatic transmission variants.
  • Engine coverage spans 4G63 and 4G64 MPI gasoline engines, 4D56 diesel and 4D56 Step III electronic diesel systems, plus a separate 4M40 2.8L engine repair manual with internal overhaul procedures.
  • Engine service sections address drive-belt tension, ignition timing and idle adjustment, compression and vacuum testing, cylinder-head gasket service, timing and balance belts, camshaft and crankshaft oil seals, oil pan removal, cooling, turbocharger/intercooler, injection nozzle, injection pump, and engine assembly removal and installation.
  • Drivetrain files cover clutch controls, R5M21/V5M21/V5MT1 manual transmissions, R4AW2/V4AW2 automatic transmissions, road and stall testing, hydraulic-pressure diagnosis, propeller shafts, hubs, drive shafts, freewheel clutch, differential carriers, and rear differential lock service. The 2002 model tables also identify selected K74T variants with V4A51, but no V4A51-specific transmission repair chapter is included.
  • Brake, steering, and suspension chapters include front disc and rear drum brakes, load-sensing proportioning valve, separate 2WD and 4WD ABS diagnosis, hydraulic-unit and wheel-speed-sensor checks, G-sensor testing, manual and power steering gear, power-steering pump and linkage, coil-spring and torsion-bar front suspension, and rear suspension service.
  • Electrical, body, SRS, and HVAC material covers immobilizer ID registration, ETACS/keyless-entry functions, combination meters and lighting, door glass and locks, cab and rear-body mounting, Club Cab quarter glass, airbag diagnosis and disposal, heater/A/C service, and 2002 automatic climate-control diagnosis.
  • 1,853 PDF pages in 36 files: 1,716 pages of chassis sections, a 7-page cover/foreword file, and a 130-page 4M40 engine manual. Publication references are PWTE96E1, update issues PWTE96E1-B, PWTE96E1-C, and PWTE96E1-D, bulletin MSB-00E00-003, and the separate 4M40 publication PWEE9409-D.

Chassis and Engine System Documentation

Publication PWTE96E1 is the English European-market L200 chassis workshop manual. It combines the 1997 base manual with change pages and service information for the 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 model years; it is not six separate full manuals. The model tables identify engine, transmission, drive type, cab shape, steering position, and destination through the model code and chassis number, including K62T 4G63 2WD, K64T 4D56 2WD, K75T 4G64 4WD, and K74T turbo-intercooled 4D56 4WD variants.

For the 4G63, 4G64, and 4D56, the chassis manual concentrates on on-vehicle inspection and adjustment plus removal and installation of major assemblies. It does not replace the separate internal engine and transmission overhaul publications named in the foreword. The included 4M40 manual is different: it goes inside the engine, covering the cylinder head and valve train, timing gears and balance shaft, oil pump, pistons and connecting rods, crankshaft and crankcase, turbocharger, injection nozzles, and injection pump. The L200 model tables in PWTE96E1 list 4G63, 4G64, and 4D56 rather than 4M40, so check the engine code before purchasing specifically for 4M40 repair work.

Diagnostics and Major Repair Coverage

The fuel-system files go well beyond tune-up specifications. MPI diagnosis includes MUT-II trouble-code routines, data-list readings, actuator tests, fail-safe tables, symptom charts, fuel-pressure testing, ECU-terminal checks, injector service, and throttle-body inspection. The 2002 4D56 Step III section adds electronically controlled injection diagnosis, accelerator-pedal and pump-sensor testing, EGR control, intercooler-fan control, and variable-geometry turbo control for applicable 4WD models.

Automatic-transmission troubleshooting is organized around basic adjustment, road testing, torque-converter stall testing, hydraulic-pressure testing, and the hydraulic circuit before assembly removal. Axle repair coverage reaches the front hub and knuckle, drive and inner shafts, differential carrier, freewheel clutch, rear axle shaft, differential case, and rear differential-lock system. ABS chapters provide separate 2WD and 4WD procedures, including diagnosis-code charts, MUT-II actuator tests, wheel-speed-sensor waveform inspection, hydraulic-unit checks, and 4WD G-sensor testing.

Electrical and body diagnosis includes immobilizer ID registration, keyless-entry secret-code registration, ETACS function adjustment, connector and ECU-terminal checks, combination-meter troubleshooting, lighting and accessory circuits, power-window and door-lock service, SRS post-collision diagnosis, and automatic A/C-ECU testing. These are system-level repair procedures, not a full vehicle wiring-diagram set.

Factory Data, Diagrams, and Service Cautions

The general and component sections provide model-code plate decoding, chassis-number identification, lifting and jacking locations, 4WD stream-fording treatment, component-specific torque data, lubricants, sealants, fluid specifications, inspection limits, adjustment data, and electrical test values. Special-tool listings identify equipment such as the MB991502 MUT-II subassembly, MB991223 harness set, and MB991613 SRS check harness.

Useful visual references include the MPI system diagram, 4D56 Step III control-system diagram, automatic-transmission hydraulic circuit, EGR and vacuum-circuit diagrams, charging/starting/ignition system diagrams, ABS wheel-sensor waveform charts, and exploded component views. The foreword lists a separate electrical wiring manual and body repair manual, so this PDF set should not be mistaken for either of those publications.

A few procedures are especially sensitive to setup. On the 4D56 timing system, tightening the tensioner fasteners in the wrong order can leave the belt over-tensioned. For 4D56 Step III cylinder-head work, gasket thickness is selected from piston projection, which changes when pistons or connecting rods are replaced. SRS service requires at least a 60-second wait after battery disconnection, and only the specified test equipment should be used around airbag circuits to prevent unintended deployment.
