1991 John Deere F710 / F725 Front Mower Technical Manual (P/N TM1493)

John Deere technical manual TM1493 (February 1995) covers the 1991 F710 and F725 front mowers, with machine repair sections and separate operation, diagnosis, test, and adjustment sections.

• Engine and fuel systems: Engine removal and installation, compression and crankcase vacuum tests, valve adjustments, fuel-pump testing, and carburetor removal for both engine variants.

FC540V and FD590V Engine Service

The engine sections cover removal and installation, with separate diagnostic information for the F710's FC540V and the F725's FD590V. Compression, cylinder leakage, crankcase vacuum, and oil-pressure tests support fault diagnosis; governor, throttle, choke, and valve-clearance adjustments are also included.

Repair scope: Internal engine and carburetor overhaul require the separate CTM5 for the F710 or CTM39 for the F725. Those component manuals are not included. Complete starter and engine ignition/charging component repair is also referred to them.

Fuel and cooling: Fuel-pump inspection, hose replacement, and air-cleaner service are covered alongside carburetor removal and installation. F725 cooling coverage includes radiator inspection and radiator, fan, and thermostat removal; coolant-pump repair is referred to CTM39.

Electrical Fault Tracing and PTO Clutch Tests

The F710 and F725 electrical schematics are supported by starting-system test-point charts and operator-presence circuit diagrams. F725-specific material includes pulser-coil, ignition-module, and coolant-temperature lamp tests.

The printed-circuit-board LED explanation distinguishes a circuit power check from a board-failure diagnosis. Together with the component tests, it helps trace a starting or PTO fault without treating an unlit LED as proof of a failed board.

PTO coverage includes clutch removal, inspection, electrical tests, and air-gap adjustment. The repair section identifies which clutch parts are replaceable and when the assembly must be replaced.

Sundstrand Drive, Steering, and Lift Hydraulics

Transmission coverage extends to pump-rotor inspection, rotating-group assembly, and control-linkage adjustment. The Kanzaki differential section adds internal inspection and input-pinion-to-reduction-shaft backlash adjustment. Separate diagnostic charts address erratic forward or reverse drive, with charge-pump pressure and differential-lock tests.

The transmission teardown cautions identify the risk of damaging machined faces while separating the pump body and cover.

Steering and lift: Gerotor timing illustrations and the AM 119987 steering-valve procedure accompany the hydraulic system schematic. The steering spring installer is identified as KML10018-3. Hydraulic coverage includes control-valve assembly, weight-transfer diagnosis, relief-pressure checks, and steering/lift cylinder leakage tests.

The lift cylinder is treated as a replacement assembly, not an internally rebuildable component. Shoe-and-drum brake inspection and service/parking-brake linkage adjustments are covered separately.

PTO Gearboxes and Mower Deck Repair

The PTO gearbox uses the mower gearbox's disassembly and inspection procedure. Deck coverage includes blade sharpening and balancing, spindle bearings and seals, and side-to-side and front-to-rear leveling. A 48-inch spindle cross-section accompanies the spindle assembly instructions.

The spindle repair cautions explain how clamping the shaft's hexagonal end can damage it and affect blade operation. Operational checkout procedures connect abnormal engine, drive, steering, PTO, and lift behavior to the relevant diagnostic sections.

For cold intake and exhaust valves, the F710 FC540V specification is 0.15 mm (0.006 in.); the F725 FD590V specification is 0.25 mm (0.010 in.).

The electric PTO clutch adjustment sections for both models specify an air gap of 0.38–0.64 mm (0.015–0.025 in.).
