D16 and B16 Engine Repair
The engine chapters separate SOHC and DOHC procedures, with crankshaft and connecting-rod bearing selection, piston and ring inspection, and cylinder-head checks. Exploded-view indexes connect components with fastener torque specifications, thread sizes, and the relevant repair procedures.
Cooling-system coverage includes radiator and cap pressure testing, thermostat inspection, water-pump service, and coolant refilling and bleeding. Maintenance schedules distinguish normal and severe operating conditions.
Manual, Automatic, and CVT Transmissions
The S40 and S4C sections extend to mainshaft and countershaft disassembly, synchro inspection, differential backlash checks, and thrust-shim adjustment. The S4C repair section specifically addresses the Si/SiR application.

Steering coverage includes manual and power-assisted rack service, gearbox adjustment, and power-steering pump inspection. Brake sections provide ABS fault-code diagnosis and control-unit terminal checks alongside conventional brake service.
Driveshaft and wheel-bearing procedures support suspension repairs, while the body and climate chapters cover component removal, adjustment, and system testing.
Before major teardown, follow the factory lift and support-point instructions and the precautions for changes in vehicle balance during heavy component removal.
Examples of Engine Inspection and Fluid Specifications
These are a few examples of the inspection and filling specifications in the manual.
For D16Y5, D16Y7, and D16Y8 engines, the cylinder-head warpage service limit is 0.05 mm, and cold intake-valve clearance is 0.18–0.22 mm.
Oil capacity at an oil-and-filter change is 3.6 liters for the D16Y7. Cooling-system overhaul capacities, including the heater and reservoir, are 4.2 liters for the D16Y8 with manual transmission, 4.3 liters with automatic transmission, and 5.0 liters for the B16A2.
