Chilton states that its repair coverage is built around work the average do-it-yourself mechanic can reasonably attempt. Deeper engine work assumes access to measuring tools, an engine stand, pullers, and machine-shop operations. Internal manual or automatic transaxle rebuilding and differential rebuilding are outside the book's scope; those chapters concentrate on identification, adjustment, removal and installation, clutch work, axle service, and related external components.

The book does not treat 1984-95 as one mechanical configuration. Ignition, valve-lash, cylinder-head, timing-belt, emission, wiring, suspension, and brake information is split into 1984-87, 1988-91, and 1992-95 groups where required.
