Kawasaki Manual Features & Content Preview
- Document identity and model coverage: A 472-page PDF of Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ MULE3010 DIESEL Utility Vehicle Service Manual, Part No. 99924-1306-02, Second Edition (1), issued December 27, 2002. Factory application is limited to the 2003 KAF950-B1 and 2004 KAF950-B2, with the beginning frame numbers listed in the manual.
- Diesel engine and fuel-system work: Covers cylinder compression testing, cylinder-head removal and installation, rocker arms, lifters, valves, guides and seats, injection-nozzle inspection, injection-pump timing and troubleshooting, engine removal, and internal crankshaft/crankcase repair.
- Separate B1 and B2 converter procedures: Provides variant-specific exploded views and service information for the torque-converter covers, drive belt, drive pulley, driven pulley, bushings, springs and wear shoes, including B2-only belt-deflection and spider-shoe clearance adjustments.
- Transmission and final-drive repair: Details transmission case splitting and assembly; Hi/Low, 2WD/4WD and differential shift mechanisms; bearing and oil-seal replacement; front LSD clutch inspection; bevel-gear setup; propeller shafts; axles; and joint-boot service.
- Brake, steering, suspension and frame coverage: Includes brake bleeding, master- and wheel-cylinder work, drum and brake-panel repair, parking-brake adjustment, toe-in and steering-gear setup, strut and leaf-spring service, and removal of major body and rear-subframe components.
- Electrical diagnosis and factory illustrations: Supplies separate B1/B2 Wiring Diagrams, the Battery Testing Chart, Cooling System Flow Chart, Engine Oil Flow Chart, Transmission Sectional Figure, and Cable, Wires, and Hose Routing drawings, backed by parts-location and circuit-test pages.
Exact B1/B2 Fitment
The covered powerplant is Kawasaki’s 953 mL, liquid-cooled, three-cylinder OHV diesel with a Denso VE-type mechanical injection pump. The model-application page identifies the 2003 KAF950-B1 from beginning frame number JK1AFDB1□3B500001 and the 2004 KAF950-B2 from JK1AF950BBB600101 or JK1AFDB1□4B501501; the square marks the VIN position that varies from one vehicle to another.
Most core engine procedures apply to both versions, but the manual does not treat the B1 and B2 as mechanically interchangeable. It separates the converter assemblies and wiring diagrams, gives B2-specific belt and pulley adjustments, and identifies variant differences in drive ratios, belt and wear-shoe specifications, and differential-gear-housing tightening data. That distinction helps prevent selecting a B1 procedure or specification for a B2 machine.
Workshop-Level Repair and Diagnosis
Engine coverage extends beyond routine service. The top-end chapter addresses compression measurement, cylinder-head inspection, rocker-shaft and valve-lifter work, valve-guide replacement and valve-seat repair. Separate lubrication and lower-engine chapters cover the oil-flow system, oil-pressure testing, oil pump and relief valve, timing-gear case, camshaft, connecting rods, crankshaft, bearing inserts, pistons, cylinder boring and honing, camshaft bearings, and crankcase inspection.
The fuel chapter documents throttle setup, nozzle removal and testing, idle and maximum-speed adjustment, injection-pipe and pump removal, and dial-gauge inspection and adjustment of injection timing. A multi-page troubleshooting section supports fault isolation. One important scope limit is stated clearly: the injection pump and nozzles are not intended for field disassembly or hand rebuilding; malfunctioning units are to be replaced or handled by a qualified diesel-injection repair facility.
Inside the driveline chapters, the transmission case is followed through splitting, reassembly and inspection of the main shift, Hi/Low, 2WD/4WD and differential mechanisms. Final-drive procedures include LSD clutch checks, pinion and ring-gear work, bearing preload, tooth-contact and backlash adjustment, bevel-gear case service, propeller shafts, front axles and rear drive-shaft components.
Factory Data, Tools and Repair Cautions
Exploded views carry assembly notes for torque, locking agent, grease, adhesive and sealant. Specification sections provide component-specific clearances, wear limits, pressure-test data, fluid requirements, electrical test values and adjustment information. Factory tool callouts include the injection-timing dial gauge adapter 57001-1430, compression gauge adapter 57001-1431, drive-pulley holder and wrench 57001-1548 / 57001-1549, crankcase splitting tool assembly 57001-1098, pinion gear holder 57001-1281, and brake drum remover 57001-1260.
The cautions are tied to specific repair operations. Overcutting a valve seat can sink the valve far enough that clearance can no longer be adjusted, forcing cylinder-head replacement. Loading the converter clutch holder against the spider instead of the pulley cover can break the spider assembly. In the charging system, using a megger or another high-capacity test source can damage the rectifier.
Because this manual covers rotating converter parts, diesel injection equipment, brake hydraulics, battery charging and heavy component removal, use the specified support, isolation and test equipment. Complex fuel-system, brake and internal-engine repair should be handled by a qualified technician when the required tools or experience are not available.
