Variant-Specific Material

Coverage is limited to these VN900B and VN900D applications. VN900D-specific sections cover windshield height adjustment, removal, and installation; saddlebag removal and installation; and backrest removal and installation. California material covers the evaporative canister, separator, hoses, and inspection procedures; Europe sections add dual oxygen sensors and heaters with related service codes, plus city-light and dedicated wiring information. Important Repair Cautions

The cam-chain chapter warns that rotating the crankshaft with the tensioner cap bolt removed can damage the tensioner body or cylinder and upset timing enough to damage the valves. The belt-drive section cautions that twisting, sharply bending, or prying the belt onto the pulleys can damage its tensile cords and sharply reduce belt life.

Fuel-system repair involves residual pressure and flammable gasoline. Follow the manual's battery-isolation and fuel-handling precautions, work away from ignition sources, and securely support the motorcycle before engine, wheel, fork, steering, or final-drive removal.
