Engine Clearances and Bolt Torques: A Preview

Examples from the engine inspection tables include an intake valve stem-to-guide factory clearance of 0.0010–0.0022 inch (0.025–0.055 mm) and a cylinder head distortion limit of 0.0157 inch (0.4 mm). These dimensions apply to standard-size parts at 70°F (21°C).

The engine torque table specifies connecting rod bolts at 18–20 lb-ft (24–27 N-m), with clean threads lubricated with new engine oil. Separate entries distinguish the cylinder head bolt groups and their tightening requirements.
