Injection Systems and SL Turbo Service

The HA timing section uses a dial-gauge procedure and identifies cam-lift measuring device SST 49 9140 074. Separate SL/TF procedures cover their inline injection-pump arrangements, supported by vacuum-hose routing diagrams.

Injection-pump service: Removal, installation, timing, and related drive-component work are described. The manual directs internal pump servicing to an authorized Diesel Kiki distributor with the required special tools and testers.

For the SL Turbo, coverage extends to intercooler removal and inspection, turbine-wheel checks, and restrictions in the turbocharger oil feed and return passages. Exhaust-controlled heating diagnosis includes the shutter valves, actuators, switches, and control unit.

During SL/TF timing work, mishandling the delivery valve can unseat the pump barrel, allowing fuel into the engine and causing damage. Incorrect injection timing can also cause diesel knock or reduced power.

Always observe standard shop safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment when working with pressurized diesel fuel systems or heavy vehicle components.

Transmission and Differential Benchwork

Gearbox inspection includes synchronizer rings, double-cone assemblies, selective shims, and bearing end play. Power Flow diagrams distinguish the covered Power/Economy sub-transmission arrangements.

Differential procedures address pinion-height selection, bearing preload, ring-and-pinion backlash, and tooth-contact checks. These references support assessing worn components and selecting the adjustments required during a rebuild.

Steering and Brake Diagnosis

Manual and engine-speed-sensing power steering have separate troubleshooting and overhaul procedures, including worm-shaft preload adjustment, air bleeding, and pump pressure testing.

The load-sensing G-valve section links pressure-test tables to valve part numbers and cargo-deck configurations. Its on-vehicle test excludes left-hand-drive models with 14- or 17-foot cargo decks.

Cold-Start Circuits and Wiring References

HA Quick Start System controls differ from the SL/TF air-heater controls. Matching the correct circuit and component tests helps narrow a cold-start complaint before replacement parts are selected.

Selected Timing, Oil-Pressure and Boost Specifications

For the HA engine’s static injection-timing check, the manual specifies a 1.00 mm dial-gauge cam-lift reading at the prescribed timing position.

The engine oil-pressure test specifies a minimum of 373 kPa at 3,600 rpm with the engine at normal operating temperature. For the SL Turbo, on-vehicle boost pressure is specified at 41.2–49.1 kPa at 4,000 rpm after warm-up.
