Engine Builds and Valve-Train Repair

Early intake valves with thick heads can contact the pistons in later engines; the valve-train sections explain camshaft, valve, and piston compatibility.

Diesel Injection and Gasoline Fuel Systems

Diesel procedures cover C.A.V. and Simms pump timing plus injector opening-pressure, spray-pattern, seat-leakage, and leak-back tests. Internal injection-pump overhaul is not included.

Clutches, Transmissions, and Final Drives

The 1200's separate transmission and PTO clutch controls receive their own adjustment and overhaul coverage. Twelve-speed transmission sections include the creeper drive, while final-drive repair distinguishes the ball-bearing 780/3800 assemblies from the tapered-roller units.

Differential repair includes pinion contact-pattern checks, bevel gear backlash, and carrier-bearing adjustment. The 770's single-speed PTO is covered separately from the two-speed units, and belt-pulley overhaul applies to models other than the 1200.

Implematic and Selectamatic Hydraulics

Separate troubleshooting sections address failure to lift, hold, or lower and erratic draft control. Pressure tests and cylinder-leakage checks help separate pump or valve faults from leakage at the lift piston before replacement parts are selected.

Pump repair covers rear-mounted Dowty and Plessey units and the 1200's crankshaft-driven single and dual pumps. Control-valve bench tests, top-link sensing adjustments, and remote-cylinder valves receive dedicated coverage.

The control-mechanism adjustments specify the David Brown 961796 setting gauge, with drawings elsewhere for locally fabricated test adapters.

On the 1200, loss of pump prime after draining the shared transmission/hydraulic sump can damage the pump. The ram-cylinder procedures also address secure support of the raised lift linkage.

Illustrations include the steering-column exploded view, front-wheel spindle section, and final-drive cutaway, plus the Selectamatic circuit, pressure-balanced valve flow diagrams, and automatic hold mechanism schematic.
