Lincoln Aviator 2004–2005 Repair Manual Set

The 4-valve DOHC V8 material provides step-by-step procedures, exploded views, inspection limits, clearances, torque specifications, and lubrication data. Detailed sections address camshaft followers, hydraulic lash adjusters, valve springs, the flexplate, crankshaft seals, oil pan, oil pump, and pickup tube.

Timing work calls out Camshaft Holding Tool 303-446 (T93P-6256-AHR) and Crankshaft Holding Tool 303-448 (T93P-6303-A). Its cautions explain that rotating the crankshaft or camshafts with the chains removed and cylinder heads installed can cause piston and valve damage.

Cooling and fuel: Cooling-system pressure tests, draining, filling, and bleeding accompany radiator, thermostat, and coolant-pump service. Fuel-system sections cover tank and pump removal, spring-lock coupling service, and EVAP smoke-leak testing.

Transmission and Differential Setup

DTC charts, symptom indexes, shift-point road tests, output-state control, solenoid functional checks, and line- and air-pressure tests support 5R55S fault isolation. These references help compare electrical and hydraulic findings before choosing an internal repair.

Internal procedures cover the fluid pump, clutch drums, planetary assemblies, one-way clutches, bands, and servos, with selective bearings, snap rings, end-play checks, and band adjustments. A Preview of Engine and Transmission Test Values

Engine specifications list hot oil pressure of 138–310 kPa at 1,500 rpm. The starting-system chart gives a normal engine cranking speed of 140–220 rpm.

For 5R55S electrical diagnosis, the solenoid-side resistance chart specifies 16–45 ohms for shift solenoids SSA, SSB, SSC, and SSD, with a separate 9–16 ohm range for the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid.
