The service volumes provide mechanical repair information for their respective vehicle families. Within the Dakota compilation, the R1 diagnostic books connect fault testing with the corresponding R1 service procedures; the separate code reference supplies brief definitions rather than diagnostic test charts.

Coverage limits: Dakota coverage is model year 2000. The second service volume covers 2003 Ram, and the set does not contain 2001, 2002, or 2004 Dakota workshop volumes. Many Ram controller, data-bus, SKIM, body, and powertrain fault procedures refer to separate Diagnostic Procedures manuals used with the DRB III.

For the AN 8-1/4-inch and 9-1/4-inch rear axles, the specification tables list ring-gear backlash of 0.12–0.20 mm (0.005–0.008 in.). Ring-gear runout is specified at 0.127 mm (0.005 in.) for both axle types.
