Engine Inspection and Reassembly

The engine section documents piston-ring clearances, valve-seat contact widths and connecting-rod oil clearances for bench inspection. These specifications help mechanics assess component condition before deciding which parts require repair or replacement.

Exploded views of the cylinder, crankshaft, piston and camshaft show how the internal assemblies fit together. Separate illustrations identify piston and connecting-rod orientation for the different engine groups, while the timing illustrations distinguish camshaft alignment from balancer-shaft indexing.

Selected Piston Clearances and Rotor Test Values

The supplement specifies piston-to-cylinder clearance of 0.03–0.07 mm for the YG450D and 0.03–0.05 mm for the YG550D, YG650D, YG650DE, EF5000EA and EF6000EA. These are model-specific inspection specifications, not a single clearance range for every engine.

In the base manual’s rotor inspection section, main field-coil resistance is 30 Ω for EF5000E/YG500D and 32 Ω for EF6000E/YG600D, with a tolerance of ±10% at 20°C (68°F).
