1998–1999 Honda EU10i & EU1000i Generator Factory Service Manual (P/N 66ZT300)

Honda's EU10i and EU1000i shop manual, publication 66ZT300, covers the GXH50 engine and multi-pole inverter generator assemblies. The November 1998 edition is supplied with two Honda service updates and an EU10i owner's manual.

• Engine repair: Camshaft, rocker arm, push rod, oil case, crankshaft, cylinder block, piston and valve disassembly, inspection and reassembly, with valve-timing procedures.

• Fuel system and Eco Throttle: Carburetor teardown, float inspection, pilot-screw adjustment, throttle control motor testing, and fuel tank, filter and pump service.

• Generator and ignition: Rotor removal, stator winding tests, pulser-coil adjustment, spark tests, Oil Alert diagnosis, and inverter fault isolation and replacement.

• Starter, cooling and exhaust: Recoil starter rebuilding, fan cover and shroud removal, carburetor insulator installation, and muffler and exhaust manifold service.

• Electrical reference: Control panel, receptacle, rectifier and spark-unit checks, with type-specific wiring diagrams, connector views and cable/harness routing illustrations.

• Mechanical reference: Maintenance standards, component torque tables, wear limits, dimensional drawings, exploded assembly views, and AC/DC external characteristic curves.

The repair sections suit technicians and mechanically experienced owners who can use electrical test equipment, measure engine wear and work with the specified service tools.

Generator Output and Ignition Diagnosis

Diagnostic flowcharts cover hard starting, stalling, unstable engine speed, Eco Throttle faults, low or missing AC output, and loss of DC output. Checks distinguish the oil-level switch, ignition coil, pulser coil and spark unit within the ignition system.

The AC output charts separate stator, wiring, receptacle and inverter checks, helping narrow down the failed assembly before replacement. Inverter service covers removal and complete-unit replacement; it does not provide internal circuit-board repair procedures.

Electrical specifications distinguish C/L winding tests from those for other types. Separate wiring diagrams cover C/L, S, G/F/B/W and U configurations, while routing views show how the generator harness, ignition wiring and fuel-system tubes fit around the engine.

Follow the manual's electrical-test precautions, particularly its protection against exposed terminals, short circuits and ignition sparks near fuel.

GXH50 Internal Repair and Carburetor Service

Maintenance covers engine oil, air-cleaner servicing, spark-plug gaps and cold valve-clearance adjustment.

The GXH50 is identified by engine description code GCAL. Internal repair coverage includes camshaft timing, piston-ring orientation, connecting-rod clearance checks with Plastigauge, valve and guide measurements, oil-case sealing, and oil-level switch inspection. The torque tables specify fasteners such as the connecting-rod bolts, valve-cover bolts and rotor nut.

Carburetor procedures cover the main and pilot jets, nozzle, float valve and throttle linkage. The float-height inspection calls for replacement of an out-of-specification float, and the throttle motor section includes resistance and operating checks.

The rotor-removal section specifies flywheel puller 07935-8050004. It warns against bracing a tool against the cooling-fan blades, which can break them; the valve-cover instructions also warn that forceful removal can deform the cover.

Service Updates and EU10i Operating Instructions

Shop Manual News P/P-248, issued in August 2005, documents the changed U-type AC receptacle, its terminals, mounting screws and cable routing. The bulletin also references EX7 equipment; those pages do not constitute an EX7 shop manual.

Shop Manual News P/P-231, issued in March 2005, corrects the recoil starter friction-spring position and the related reassembly illustration and procedure.

The appended English EU10i owner's manual covers starting, load connection, parallel operation, battery charging, spark-arrester maintenance, transport and storage. Its spark-plug recommendation and fuel-tank specification differ from the base shop manual, so the two specification sets need to be matched to the generator version.

Examples of Compression and Coil Test Data

These figures are a small selection of the engine and electrical test specifications in the shop manual. The GXH50 cylinder-compression reference is 0.42 MPa (61.2 psi) at 1,000 rpm.

The stator exciter-coil resistance is 0.5–0.9 ohms between the black/blue connection and ground. Ignition-coil primary resistance is 0.7–1.1 ohms between the primary lead terminal and ground terminal.
