Jonsered Manual Features & Content Preview

Navigating production changes and identifying the correct Walbro, Zama, or Tillotson carburetor components for an older Jonsered chainsaw takes the right illustrated parts list—not just a model name. Built around Document I9300009 and 26 related IPL editions, this 332-page PDF collection combines 206 pages of exploded parts information with a 126-page Chain Saws Workshop Manual. The IPL publication dates run from 1983 through 2002 and cover 35 models; the 2055 appears in the workshop manual only.

Because the workshop sections assume access to model-specific pullers, pressure-testing equipment, a tachometer, an ohmmeter, and normal chainsaw service knowledge, this set is suited to shop technicians and experienced owners equipped for internal two-stroke repair. It is not an operator’s manual or a beginner maintenance guide.

  • Illustrated parts coverage: The 27 IPLs separate engine housing, crankshaft, cylinder and piston, clutch, chain brake, starter, oil pump, fuel-system, handle, guard, and accessory hardware, with numbered callouts and part indexes.
  • Workshop repair procedures: Covers chain-brake and throttle-lock work, starter service, ignition diagnosis and generator replacement, carburetor overhaul and adjustment, clutch service, bar-and-chain lubrication, cylinder/piston inspection, crankcase separation, bearing and seal replacement, vibration dampers, and final tightness tests.
  • Fuel-system detail: Includes air and fuel filters, Turbo centrifugal cleaning, tank ventilation, carburetor functional sections, diaphragm and needle inspection, leakage testing, H/L adjustment, and a symptom-based troubleshooting chart.
  • Testing and specifications: Provides ignition-spark checks, flywheel/module air-gap inspection, heated-handle and carburetor-heater test points, generator output checks, oil-pump function checks, model-specific tool matrices, torque tables, tank capacities, speed data, pump delivery data, wear limits, and adjustment specifications.
  • Build and equipment variants: Separates standard and EPA carburetion, Turbo intake parts, Jungle equipment, Winter kits, heated handles, and heated carburetors. Later IPL covers also identify the earlier publication codes they replace.
  • Drawing and chart support: Includes exploded engine and carburetor assemblies, heating-system test-point diagrams, the fuel-system troubleshooting chart, oil-pump layouts, piston-damage analysis views, and model-by-model special-tool matrices.
  • Important scope limit: Full workshop procedures apply only to 2036, 2040, 2041, 2045, 2050, 2054, 2055, 625, 630, 670, 2077, 2083, and 2095. The other models receive illustrated parts coverage, not model-specific overhaul chapters; the electrical material is ignition/heater testing rather than a standalone wiring-diagram manual.

Model and Serial Coverage

The IPLs cover 70 E, 490, 510 SP, 520 SP, 535, 625, 630, 670, 830, 920, 930, 2036, 2040, 2041, 2045, 2050, 2051, 2054, 2063, 2065, 2071, 2077, 2083 II, 2094, 2095, 2141, 2145, 2149, 2150, CS 2152, 2159, 2163, 2165, 2171, and CS 2186. EPA, Jungle, Winter, and heated configurations are shown where the individual publication provides them.

Cover-level serial breaks include 2036/2040 above 331 0761; 2041 above 437 0701; 2045 above 437 0001; 2050 above 435 0251; 2051 above 302 0001; 2054 above 251 0406; 630 above 427 0001 in the 1996 edition; and 2095 above 643 0001. The revised 1999 630 IPL adds multiple internal production cutoffs, while the 2149 plates include component callouts through 1999 serial 991499999 and through 2001 serial 013200001.

Carburetor Identification

The carburetor plates distinguish complete units, gasket sets, metering and pump sections, fuel and impulse plumbing, and EPA-specific hardware. Key applications include:

Models Carburetor identification shown
2036 / 2040 Walbro WT 239 in IPL I9300009; WT289 in the workshop data table
2041 / 2045 / 2050 Zama 1Q-EL1 as printed on the IPL plate; C1Q-EL1 in the workshop data table

Do not choose a kit by saw model alone. The 2036/2040, 2054, 2083, and 2149 entries show edition- or plate-level identifier differences within the collection. Compare the stamped carburetor ID and the applicable build plate before ordering repair parts.

Assembly and Component Breakdown

Tracing a vacuum leak or sourcing a replacement crankshaft bearing? The exploded views isolate seals, bearings, piston/cylinder parts, inlet and impulse hardware, mufflers, clutches, oil pumps, chain brakes, and handle assemblies by individual callout. For its 13-model scope, the workshop manual adds dismantling, inspection, fitting, pressure-testing, adjustment, and operational-check procedures.

Two model-specific repair traps deserve attention. Puller jaws placed incorrectly on a 2054/2055 flywheel can damage its permanent magnet. Crankshaft seal lips can also be cut by shaft shoulders or splines during installation, creating the very air leak the repair was meant to cure.

Component Reference Data

Special-tool references include pressure tester 502 50 38-01, tachometer 502 71 14-01, cylinder/piston assembly set 502 50 70-01, flywheel puller 502 51 49-01, crankcase separator 502 51 61-01, and model-specific clutch, bearing, oil-pump, vibration-damper, and seal tools. The closing technical table covers displacement and bore/stroke data, ignition and plug applications, carburetor settings, tank capacities, oil-pump output, chain and bar data, operating speeds, and component-specific tightening torques for the workshop-manual models.
