Can-Am Manual Features & Content Preview

  • Exact 2013 coverage: Maverick 1000R Standard 6RDA (North America) and 6RDB (International), plus Maverick 1000R X rs 6SDA (North America), 6SDB (International), and 6SDC (Europe), all with engine type 1010.
  • Documents major engine repair: removal and installation, leak-down and oil-pressure tests, top- and bottom-end service, valve and piston inspection, camshaft timing, and water-pump seal replacement.
  • Details CVT and gearbox work: belt and pulley service, gearbox teardown, 4x4 coupling diagnosis, VSS/GBPS and actuator testing, and shifter adjustment.
  • Supports electronic fault finding: B.U.D.S./MPI-2 communication, fault-code workflows, ECM tests, throttle initialization, D.E.S.S. key programming, and connector repair.
  • Covers drivetrain and chassis procedures: front differential and rear final drive service, shaft work, steering alignment, suspension repair, brake-pressure validation, and body, cage, and frame procedures.
  • Adds factory references: circuit diagrams, connector and splice views, exploded parts illustrations, service-tool part numbers, labor times, and system-specific specification tables.

Model and Variant Identification

This PDF set is built around the BRP shop manual for the two-seat Maverick 1000R and X rs. The five codes identify trim and market versions, not different engines. Standard/X rs gauge, suspension, and wheel differences are separated where required, as are EC-only turn-signal, hazard-light, and horn circuits.

The shop manual was primarily published for mechanical technicians already familiar with BRP service procedures. It assumes the correct hand and special tools are available; much of the electronic diagnosis requires B.U.D.S. and MPI-2 access.

Engine, CVT, and Gearbox Repair

Engine repair covers the heads, camshafts and valves, cylinders and pistons, timing chains and tensioners, crankcase, crankshaft, drive gears, oil pump, and water-pump shaft and seals. Inspection data address leak-down, oil pressure, clearances, service limits, and tightening information. Cooling work includes leak and pressure-cap testing, draining, refilling, and the Maverick-specific bleeding procedure.

CVT chapters handle the cover, belt, both pulleys, one-way clutch, wear components, springs, and countershaft support. Gearbox material covers the 4x4 coupling, shafts and gears, bearings, seals, shift drum, park mechanism, sensors, actuator, and shifter setup.

The manual flags two expensive assembly traps: the front and rear camshafts are not interchangeable, and incorrect timing-chain adjustment can damage the engine. An improperly engaged driven-pulley cam can damage both the cam and pulley.

Fuel, Electronic, and Electrical Diagnosis

The EMS section explains ECM inputs and outputs, CAN communication, monitoring and limp-home functions, and fault isolation. B.U.D.S. procedures cover module data, active and occurred faults, monitoring and activation tests, ECM first initialization, throttle-opening reset, injector balance testing, key programming, and service-reminder reset.

Fuel-system repair includes iTC and EFI diagnosis, injector and fuel-rail service, throttle-body and sensor tests, tank leak testing, pump pressure testing, and the Fuel System Diagnostic Flow Chart. Electrical chapters address power distribution and grounds, harnesses, connector service, ignition, charging, starting, gauges, lighting, and accessories. The manual warns that direct probing can spread ECM connector terminals and create intermittent faults; it calls for the ECM adapter tool instead.

Diagrams, Tools, and Included Files

Named visual references include the Engine Lubrication Circuit, Engine Management System (EMS) and CAN diagrams, Power Distribution Diagram, Fuel System Diagnostic Flow Chart, and full-page Maverick 2013 General System wiring diagram. The tool index supplies application pages and part numbers for the Camshaft Timing Tool (P/N 529 036 268), Engine Leak Down Test Kit (P/N 529 035 661), Clutch Holder and Puller (P/N 529 036 238 and 529 035 746), and MPI-2 cable and interface card (P/N 710 000 851 and 529 036 018).

The 448-page shop manual is the repair core. The parts catalog adds exploded assemblies and OEM part listings; the regional Operator's Guides cover operation, safety, and owner maintenance. The accessory publications are product-reference material, not extra repair chapters.

Follow the manual's shutdown, tether-cord, vehicle-support, hot-coolant, fuel-pressure, and brake-fluid precautions. It specifically prohibits working beneath the vehicle while it is suspended from the cage by a hoist.
