Carburetor Versions and Adjustment Limits

Fuel specifications distinguish PA42A carburetors for 2004–2005 U.S. and 2004–2007 Canadian models, PA42B for 2006–2007 U.S. models, and PA42C for models after 2007. The assembly instructions also distinguish adjustable-needle versions from later fixed-needle versions.

Carburetor service includes the idle-drop air-screw adjustment procedure and float inspection using gauge 07401-0010000. The float itself is nonadjustable. The manual cautions that forcing the air screw against its seat can damage the seat.

Fork, Steering, and Rear Suspension Work

Fork assembly drawings identify the grease-lubricated sliders, springs, and guides. Steering-stem service includes bearing and race replacement, with installation-tool references.

Rear-shock coverage consists of removal, inspection, and replacement of the complete assembly. Swingarm procedures include pivot-bushing inspection.

Always ensure the motorcycle is securely supported on a proper safety stand before removing the wheels or separating the crankcase halves.

Ignition Fault Isolation and Wiring References

Peak-voltage checks compare readings at the ignition control module with readings at the pulse-generator or exciter-coil connector to distinguish wiring faults from component faults. Cold valve clearance is specified at 0.05 ± 0.02 mm for both intake and exhaust, with inspection below 35°C (95°F). The drive-chain section specifies 15–25 mm of slack with the engine off, the transmission in neutral, and the motorcycle on its side stand.

Carburetor float-level inspection specifies 12.7 mm (0.50 in), measured with the float valve seated and the float arm just touching it.
