Year-Specific Coverage

Each annual manual includes model-name and code tables for the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. In this set, YZ85LC is the European standard-model designation for 2002–2004; the 2005 and 2006 editions use YZ85. Separate YZ85 and YZ85LW chassis specifications and tuning data help prevent standard and large-wheel settings from being mixed.

Factory Procedures, Tools, and Diagrams

The seven chapters in each edition are General Information, Specifications, Regular Inspection and Adjustments, Engine, Chassis, Electrical, and Tuning. Important Repair Scope Limits

For bottom-end work, the manuals cover engine removal, crankcase splitting, bearing and oil-seal replacement, crankshaft inspection and removal/installation, and transmission repair. They do not provide a crankshaft pressing or connecting-rod replacement procedure. The crankcase chapter warns against hammering the crankshaft or forcing uneven case separation, which can damage the cases, bearings, or crank alignment.

Rear-shock coverage includes removal, spring service, external inspection, adjustment, and installation. The nitrogen-charged damper body and reservoir are not intended for workshop disassembly in these manuals; opening them can damage the unit and create a serious pressure hazard. The separate one-page parts file is only a link sheet for external microfiche sites, not an illustrated Yamaha parts catalog.
