The manual separates in-frame work from repairs that require major teardown. The camshafts, carburetors, clutch and starter clutch, gearshift linkage, alternator, and starter motor can be serviced with the engine installed. Cylinder-head and cylinder/piston repair require engine removal, while crankshaft, connecting-rod, primary-shaft, and internal transmission work require separation of the crankcase halves. This distinction helps with labor, lifting support, workspace, and parts planning before a repair begins.
Engine, Fuel, and Drivetrain Detail
For the 1,062 cc air-cooled DOHC inline-four, the top-end chapters cover camshaft removal and installation, cam-chain guides and tensioners, cylinder-head disassembly, valve-guide replacement, valve-seat inspection and refacing, and final valve adjustment. Camshaft holders are position-marked from A through L, and the lubrication passages and oil line are treated as critical assembly checks.

Front-suspension coverage includes fork removal, seal and bushing inspection, damping components, the anti-dive case, orifice and check valve, steering-stem bearings, and wheel service. The rear section covers wheel bearings, driven flange and sprocket, swingarm bearings, and VHD shock spring and adjuster service. The sealed rear-shock damper is not taken apart internally, and tubeless-tire repair is referred to a separate Honda Tubeless Tire Manual.
Brake repair includes fluid replacement, bleeding, pad and disc checks, front and rear master cylinders, calipers, and brake-pedal components. Electrical chapters cover the battery and charging circuit, voltage regulator/rectifier, the two ignition subsystems serving cylinders 1/4 and 2/3, the electric starter circuit, switches, wire-color codes, and the full wiring schematic.
The manual also flags repair traps that matter on this engine. The valve-adjusting depressor must not be used as a pry bar because it can damage the lifter and camshaft, and the crankcase halves must not be separated by prying between their mating surfaces. Fork air pressure must be released before disassembly; brake fluid can damage paint and instrument lenses; and brake operation must be checked before the motorcycle returns to service.
