Honda Manual Features & Content Preview

  • A 57-page PDF reproducing Honda’s CF50/CF70 shop manual, with technical diagrams, a maintenance schedule, and electrical schematics.
  • Covers engine removal, cylinder-head service, valve-guide replacement, and valve-timing adjustment for top-end repair.
  • Details clutch, oil pump, and transmission service, including crankcase separation, gear shift fork inspection, and kick starter spindle work.
  • Explains front and rear wheel hub and brake inspection, telescopic fork disassembly, steering-bearing service, and rear suspension repair.
  • Electrical diagnosis covers charging output, ignition-coil performance, and condenser testing, supported by switch-continuity tables and the CF50/70 wiring diagram.

This shop manual covers the engine, frame, and electrical systems of the Honda CF50 and CF70 Chaly. The 49 cc CF50 and 72 cc CF70 use a 4-stroke air-cooled OHC engine, a wet multi-plate clutch, and a 3-speed constant-mesh transmission.

Top-end and transmission repair

The on-frame service chart identifies work that can be done with the engine installed. Cylinder head and piston assembly inspection covers valve-seat contact, cylinder bore condition, and ring wear, with separate checks for the rocker arms and cam-chain tensioner. Honda cautions against damaging cooling fins during cylinder removal and scoring the piston while handling its rings.

Crankshaft and gear shift mechanism checks address connecting-rod play, gear backlash, shift-fork wear, and gear engagement. The mainshaft and countershaft exploded view (Fig. 3-49) shows the gear, washer, and retaining-ring arrangement.

Carburetor service and model differences

The carburetor section goes beyond idle adjustment to cover removal, jet and float-valve inspection, float-level setting, and throttle and choke cable adjustment. Its setting table distinguishes the CF50’s 275A carburetor from the CF70’s 277A unit. The carburetor assembly exploded view (Fig. 3-51) identifies the float, float valve, main jet, and gasket set.

Wheel, fork, and rear suspension work

Chassis repair includes wheel-bearing and rim-runout checks, brake lining and drum inspection, and final-driven-sprocket wear assessment. The front fork and shock absorber exploded view (Fig. 4-13) also identifies the steering races, balls, guides, and seals. Rear suspension coverage extends to swingarm removal, rubber-bushing inspection, and shock spring disassembly.

Magneto ignition and electrical diagnosis

Electrical coverage is for the 6V, negative-ground system with flywheel magneto ignition. Contact-breaker point gap and ignition-timing adjustment are covered alongside component testing.

The charging-test circuit (Fig. 5-2) supports separate daytime and nighttime load checks. Other tests address the silicon rectifier and battery state of charge. Continuity checks cover the main, brake-light, dimmer, turn-signal, and neutral switches, while harness-routing information complements the wiring schematic.

Symptom-based troubleshooting tables cover failure to start and erratic running. Separate entries address clutch slip or drag, shifting faults, poor braking, and lighting or horn problems.

Service limits, maintenance, and special tools

Factory reference material includes assembly standards and service limits, engine and frame torque tables, lubrication and capacity data, and the maintenance schedule. Intake and exhaust valve clearances, spark plug gaps, and model-specific NGK or DENSO plug applications are included as service references.

The special-tool list identifies the flywheel puller (07933-0010000) and rear shock absorber compressor (07959-3290000). It also makes a model distinction for cylinder-head work: the listed valve-seat cutters apply to the CF50, while the CF70 calls for a valve-seat grinder. Reassembly guidance uses the disassembly sections and component-specific assembly notes rather than a separate walkthrough for every job.

Working on the fuel and electrical systems carries fire and shock risks; review the manual’s service precautions before starting repair work.
