Honda Manual Features & Content Preview

  • 658-page PDF set: 532-page Honda VT600C base shop manual issued in April 1988, 46-page 1993 VT600C(P) addendum identified as Honda Manual No. 67MR100V, and a separate 80-page component-drawing file. The shop-manual material is presented in English, French, and German.
  • Model and regional identification includes ED, F, G-I, G-II, SD, and SW types in the base manual. The G-I engine/frame ranges begin at PC21E-2000001 / PC21-2000001; G-II ranges begin at PC21E-3000001 / PC21-3000001. The P addendum also lists AR, E, FI, IT, SP, and U types.
  • Engine repair procedures cover removal and installation, camshaft and valve timing, cylinder-head disassembly, valve-guide replacement and seat refacing, cylinder and piston service, crankcase separation, crankshaft/connecting-rod inspection, and transmission assembly.
  • Fuel, lubrication, and cooling work includes dual constant-vacuum carburetor removal and overhaul, pilot-screw adjustment, carburetor synchronization, fuel-pump and relay checks, oil-pump service, pressure testing, thermostat and radiator diagnosis, water-pump replacement, and coolant service.
  • Chassis and brake sections detail fork disassembly, front-wheel and steering-stem repair, rear-wheel and swingarm service, rear-shock removal, drum-brake work, hydraulic master-cylinder and caliper overhaul, brake-fluid replacement, and air bleeding.
  • Electrical diagnostics trace the charging system, ignition coils, pulse generator, spark unit, starter relay, clutch diode, side-stand interlock, lighting and handlebar switches, coolant-temperature controls, fuel pump, and related continuity and resistance tests.
  • Diagrams and shop data include cable-and-harness routing, the secondary-air system layout, charging, ignition and starter circuits, the base wiring diagram, exploded component plates, torque tables, capacities, clearances, wear limits, electrical test specifications, and Honda special-tool references.

This factory shop-manual set covers the 583cc water-cooled SOHC V-twin used in the documented VT600C configurations. Honda states that explanations of standard workshop procedures are not included. With engine teardown, select-fit bearing work, brake hydraulics, and meter-based electrical testing throughout, the material is suited to technicians and experienced owners already comfortable with metric motorcycle repair.

Model-Specific Workshop Scope

The base manual is organized into 20 sections, moving from general information, lubrication, and scheduled maintenance into complete engine, chassis, and electrical repair coverage. Its troubleshooting chapter uses fault-isolation charts for hard starting, loss of power, poor low- or high-speed performance, and handling complaints.

Important in-frame limits are spelled out. The clutch, gearshift linkage, camshafts, front cylinder head and cylinder, alternator, starter motor, and carburetors can be serviced with the engine installed. Repair of the rear cylinder head or cylinder, oil-pump body, water pump, crankshaft, connecting rods, or transmission requires engine removal; the crankcase must also be separated for the internal drivetrain.

Regional differences are not treated as interchangeable. The base manual identifies the Switzerland-only secondary-air system, while the P addendum supplies region-specific carburetor identification and settings, revised oil-pump and fork data, brake updates, charging-system tests, and G-I/G-II-only headlight-relay diagnosis.

Diagrams, Tools, and Reference Data

The illustrated material includes Cable & Harness Routing, Secondary Air Supply System, Battery/Charging System, Ignition System, Electric Starter, and the main Wiring Diagram. The companion drawing file adds 80 pages of numbered orientation and exploded views for engine, intake, chassis, body, control, and electrical assemblies.

Special-tool listings identify equipment by Honda number, including clutch center holder 07923-KE10000, rotor puller 07733-0020001, steering-stem socket 07916-3710100, and Kowa digital multitester 07411-0020000. Component sections pair those tool references with inspection standards, service limits, tightening data, fluid information, and system-specific test values.

Two repair details are easy to miss. Crankshaft and connecting-rod bearing inserts are color-coded select-fit parts, and the manual calls for clearance verification after replacement; mixing codes can leave incorrect oil clearance and damage the bearings. The brake chapter also warns that brake fluid attacks painted, plastic, and rubber parts, while contaminated pads or discs reduce stopping power.

Included-File Limits and Safety

The base-manual wiring diagram is included. The P-addendum contents page references revised wiring diagrams beginning at Section 24-24, but this 46-page scan ends after Section 24-23 and does not contain those sheets. The separate component-drawing PDF uses numbered callouts but does not include matching part-number tables.

This is not blanket coverage for every VT600C model year. Match the motorcycle's type code and serial-number range to the coverage above before using specifications or ordering repair parts. Gasoline, battery charging, a hot pressurized cooling system, hydraulic brakes, and the nitrogen-charged rear shock all require appropriate workshop precautions and equipment.
