Frame and body sections cover access through the seat, steering and side covers, fuel tank, rear fender and sub-frame, exhaust pipes, and muffler. The manual also makes important repair boundaries clear. Camshaft work and front-cylinder-head service can be performed with the engine installed, while rear-cylinder-head, cylinder, piston, and oil-pump work require engine removal. Crankshaft, connecting-rod, and transmission service requires crankcase separation. Model-Year and Regional Differences

The most significant service split is between the 1997–1998 fuel system and the after-1998 layout. The 2001 electrical update is also identified. Models through 2000 use a thermosensor and resistance-based inspection, while the after-2000 configuration uses a thermo switch and continuity test.
