The N/NC book is a supplement, not a stand-alone repair manual. It introduces the new service information and data for those versions and directs the mechanic to use the FJ600L/LC manual for the underlying procedures. Both publications are included here, so the base engine, carburetion, chassis, and electrical chapters remain available alongside the N/NC changes.

This distinction matters when identifying parts and selecting specifications. The L/LC and N/NC machines share the 49A and 51K prefixes, but Yamaha lists different starting serials for the later versions. The supplement also separates the 51K California configuration through its evaporative canister and hose routing, carburetor identification, and fuel-capacity data. Chassis differences include a 110/90-18 rear tire specification for L/LC versus 120/80-18 for N/NC, plus pneumatic-mechanical front suspension and a gas/coil rear shock on the N/NC models.

Internal Repair and Adjustment Depth

The engine coverage centers on the 598cc air-cooled DOHC inline-four, wet multiple-disc clutch, and constant-mesh six-speed transmission.
