Manual Content Summary
For this 1993 Prelude publication, correct repair data depends heavily on engine and equipment configuration. The manual separates the F22A1, H23A1, and H22A1 where Honda specifies different limits or procedures rather than treating every Prelude as mechanically identical. Engine coverage includes removal and installation, cylinder head and valve-train work, timing and balancer belts, pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, oil pump and oil jets, cooling, intake/exhaust, and PGM-FI/ECM troubleshooting. The H22A1 material adds the VTEC rocker-arm mechanism, VTEC control system, camshaft inspection, and VTEC-specific tooling such as the 07LAJ-PR3020A Air Stopper.

Several manual-specific repair traps are worth knowing before major disassembly. H23A1 and H22A1 blocks use FRM cylinder liners, and Honda calls for a specific honing method; conventional cylinder-finishing practices can damage the liner surface. The H22A1 timing-belt auto-tensioner is also sensitive to handling—clamping the housing or allowing its oil to leak can compromise tensioner operation. During automatic-transaxle repair, incorrect alignment between the main valve body and torque-converter housing can seize the oil pump, while installing the main seal too deeply can block its oil-return passage and cause damage.
Specification and Data Preview
Engine compression is specified at 1,250 kPa for the F22A1 and H23A1 and 1,300 kPa for the H22A1. For the H22A1 camshaft, standard camshaft-to-holder oil clearance is 0.050–0.089 mm, with a 0.15 mm service limit. The H22A1 manual-transmission coolant-change quantity is 4.2 liters.
Automatic-transmission hydraulic specifications are engine-specific. At 2,000 rpm, F22A1 line pressure is listed from 800 kPa at fully closed throttle to 850 kPa above 3/16 throttle; the H23A1 table specifies 850 to 900 kPa under the same conditions. The power-steering pump pressure check calls for 7,000–8,000 kPa, while the R-134a refrigerant charge is 650 ± 50 g (23 ± 2 oz).
Torque values, service limits, belt-tension data, clutch clearances, differential preload, and electrical test specifications are provided within the applicable repair sections rather than reduced to generic figures. Hydraulic, SRS, ABS, steering, A/C, and drivetrain procedures should be followed with the precautions and specified test equipment given in the manual, particularly where stored pressure, refrigerant, or supplemental-restraint components are involved.
