Three Engine Families, Full Mechanical Repair Detail
The 2.8L LP1 and 3.6L LY7 sections each run from specifications and disassembled views through on-vehicle repair and full internal-engine work. Major procedures cover timing-chain guides and tensioners, camshaft position actuators, camshafts, stationary hydraulic lash adjusters, cylinder heads, pistons and connecting rods, crankshaft bearings, oil pump, front cover, oil pan, intake manifold, flywheel, and engine prelube. The LS2 chapter adds its own pushrod valvetrain, camshaft-bearing, cylinder-boring and honing, balancing, pilot-bearing, and complete short-block procedures.
For the V-6 engines, the material distinguishes the first-design roller primary timing chain from the second-design inverted-tooth system. It also explains the related oil-pump/lower-guide difference: the first-design lower guide is serviced with the oil pump, while the second-design guide is replaceable separately. Drivetrain and Chassis Procedures
The Aisin AY6 and Tremec 6-speed chapters go well beyond removal and installation. They document shaft, gear, bearing, synchronizer, shift-rail, fork, case, and extension-housing repair, with retaining-ring or shim selection and final assembly checks. Rear-drive-axle work includes pinion depth, side-bearing preload, ring-and-pinion backlash, gear-contact inspection, and limited-slip differential disassembly and assembly.
Brake coverage separates JL9 16-inch, JE5 17-inch, and J56 Brembo hardware where procedures differ. Rotor measurement and runout correction, caliper overhaul, hydraulic diagnosis, master-cylinder bench bleeding, ABS automated bleeding, brake pressure modulator service, and yaw-rate/lateral-accelerometer replacement are included. Steering and suspension material covers wheel hubs, control arms, shock modules, springs, trim-height diagnosis, rack-and-pinion service, steering-wheel-position sensor centering, and FE3/FE4 cooler arrangements.

Several cautions matter during internal repair. The manual warns that overcompressing a valve spring can drive the retainer into the valve-stem seal and damage it, and a disassembled V-6 oil pump is for diagnosis only and must not be reused. Engine lifting, fuel and brake pressure work, SIR circuits, and refrigerant service require the prescribed support, isolation, recovery equipment, and personal protection.
