Repair Cautions and Scope

Yamaha warns that the camshaft-cap bolts must be loosened and tightened evenly: uneven loading can damage the cylinder head, caps, and camshafts, while rotating the crankshaft during camshaft installation can cause damage or incorrect valve timing. For brake repair, cleaning internal components with solvent can swell and distort the seals; the manual specifies new brake fluid for that work.

The main mechanical procedures are for the XJ600S. The XJ600N appears only in the appended UK wiring diagrams for 1995, 1996, and 1997-onward models, so this is not full XJ600N mechanical repair coverage. Because the engine is air-cooled, there is no liquid-cooling service chapter.
