Exact Coverage and Intended Use
The documented powertrain is the 748.1 cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC 90-degree V-4 with CV carburetors, a cable-operated wet clutch, and a five-speed transmission. Honda states that this model-specific manual was written for people who already have basic knowledge of Honda motorcycle maintenance. It is suited to users who understand standard motorcycle service practice and have access to the specified measuring and special tools; general procedures common to other Honda motorcycles are abbreviated and referred to the separate Honda Common Service Manual.
The VF750CD receives its own upper-fairing, windscreen, and headlight-aim coverage. Fuel and emissions information also separates the VP31A 49-state, VP30A California, and VP32D Canadian carburetor configurations. California pages add carburetor-tube routing, EVAP canister service, PAIR control-valve service, and the Vacuum Hose Routing Diagram.
Production Changes and Repair Scope
The revised material flags several production changes instead of treating every motorcycle alike. Oil-system, clutch, and crankshaft pages identify changes after 1994, while the camshaft and mainshaft information distinguishes 1994-1995 parts from later construction and notes exceptions for some early-1996 units. These limited component callouts do not amount to complete 1996-2002 model coverage.
The manual also makes the job boundary clear. The oil pump, carburetors, water pump, camshafts, cylinder heads, clutch, and gearshift linkage can be serviced with the engine in the frame. The same applies to the alternator, ignition pulse generator, starter clutch, and starter motor. Piston, connecting-rod, cylinder, crankshaft, transmission, shift-fork, and shift-drum work requires engine removal and crankcase separation.

Misplaced crankcase bearing inserts can block oil passages and lead to engine seizure. The CT-bolt section also explains how careless reuse or the wrong replacement bolt can ruin the plastically formed female threads. Engine removal requires the motorcycle to be securely supported, and the fuel, pressurized-coolant, brake, battery, and ignition procedures call for the shop precautions specified in the manual.
