Inspection data cover head warpage, valve stems, guides, seats and springs, camshaft and cam-chain wear, piston and ring limits, bearing clearances, oil-pump condition, gear engagement, and shaft runout. The valve-clearance section shows TDC indexing for each cylinder pair, use of the tappet tool, removal of the adjusting pads, and separate intake and exhaust pad-selection charts. Carburetion coverage combines a labeled BS30 section view with rack removal, cleaning, inspection, reassembly, float-height and fuel-level checks, and synchronization.

Yamaha specifically warns that crankcase sealant must be kept away from the oil-gallery O-ring and crankshaft bearings. During cam installation, uneven cap tightening can damage the head, caps, and camshaft, while excessive cam rotation can bring the valves into contact with the pistons.

Chassis, Electrical, and California Equipment

Chassis repair is documented at component level rather than limited to adjustment data. Exploded views and inspection criteria cover the front-wheel speedometer drive, rear brake-shoe plate, front calipers and master cylinder, fork damper rod and bushings, steering bearings, rear shock, swingarm pivots, and final-drive chain.
