KL and KJ Engine Service

Separate engine chapters distinguish KL hydraulic lash adjuster service from KJ valve-clearance inspection and shim adjustment. Cylinder-head procedures include bolt-length checks, tightening sequences, camshaft installation and engine-mount positioning.

The KL HLA troubleshooting guide separates startup noise from warm-idle noise and relates each condition to oil checks or lash-adjuster inspection. This helps narrow the cause before components are replaced.

The camshaft procedures warn that incorrect cap handling can damage the cylinder-head thrust journal support or break a camshaft.

Timing-Belt and Valve-Clearance Preview

For the KL engine, the timing-belt inspection specifies belt deflection of 6.0–8.0 mm under a 98 N test load, measured between the timing-belt pulley and tensioner pulley.

For the KJ engine, the cold-engine valve-clearance standard is 0.27–0.33 mm for both intake and exhaust valves. The adjustment section explains shim selection and the related special-tool setup.
