Triumph Manual Features & Content Preview
- A 334-page scanned PDF of Triumph’s Tiger 955i service manual, P/N 3857017, issue 1, dated 02.2001.
- Covers engine removal and installation, camshaft and cam-chain service, and shim-type valve-clearance adjustment.
- Details cable-operated clutch service, six-speed transmission disassembly and reassembly, and starter sprag-clutch work.
- MC1000 engine-management diagnostics include fault-code retrieval, live data, freeze-frame information and actuator function tests.
- Front-fork rebuilding, steering-head bearing adjustment, brake bleeding and caliper/master-cylinder overhaul support chassis repair work.
- Exploded assembly views support mechanical repair; engine-management and chassis wiring diagrams provide component keys, wire-color identification and connector references.
- Incomplete cylinder-head section: removal coverage stops at printed page 3.19. The later head inspection, installation and valve/stem-seal procedures are missing from this scan.
Engine and Drivetrain Repair
Lower-engine coverage for the 955cc fuel-injected three-cylinder configuration includes crankcase separation and reassembly, crankshaft and connecting-rod inspection, piston/ring checks, and cylinder-liner removal and resealing. Bearing-selection charts support big-end and main-bearing replacement. A separate balancer chapter documents shaft timing and the backlash-eliminator assembly.
Clutch repair detail addresses friction-plate wear, anti-judder components and differences between plate positions. Transmission sections cover the selector forks, drum and gear-change mechanism, along with input- and output-shaft layouts.
The camshaft section warns that releasing one bearing cap completely in isolation can crack it; these caps are matched to the cylinder head and are not individually replaceable.
Fuel Injection and MC1000 Diagnostics
Diagnostic instructions use Triumph tool T3880250. The ECM Connector Pin Numbering—MC1000 view supports the individual circuit tests, while separate non-electrical fault charts address poor throttle response, idle problems and fuel-delivery faults.
Throttle-position, idle-control and fuel-trim reset functions sit alongside tune downloading and interrupted-download recovery. The documented diagnostic workflow requires a dealer number, and tune updates require a Triumph-supplied password.
Fuel-pressure testing with gauge T3880048 helps distinguish pump, regulator and hose faults. Throttle-body balancing, injector service and California-only evaporative-loss controls are also covered. A fuel-system caution explains how running the pump with a hose disconnected bypasses regulation and can damage the filter or dislodge hoses inside the tank.
Lubrication, Cooling and Chassis Service
The Engine Oil Circuit diagram explains lubricant distribution, backed by oil-pump inspection and oil-cooler service procedures. Cooling-system repair covers coolant renewal and bleeding, pressure-cap testing, thermostat checks and water-pump replacement.
Rear-suspension coverage addresses shock-unit removal and installation with the remote preload adjuster, plus the shock’s lower needle-roller mounting and swingarm bearings—not internal shock rebuilding. Final-drive procedures cover eccentric chain adjustment and chain replacement. The wheel section addresses spoked, inner-tube wheels, bearing replacement and the rear cush-drive layout.
The Fork Oil Level Chart specifically identifies Tiger VIN 71699 onward, with oil and fork-position data for that application. Brake pages pair the Front Brake Layout with hydraulic-component service, pad replacement and disc thickness/runout inspection.
Electrical Components and Circuit Diagrams
Component procedures cover alternator rotor/stator removal, starter-motor replacement and instrument-pack removal. The Starting and Charging Circuit Diagram traces the starter interlocks and charging components. Separate lighting and auxiliary circuits identify the associated relays, switches and accessory connections.
Specification Highlights
Component-specific torque tables cover chassis, engine and suspension fasteners, including staged crankcase tightening. Reference data include fluid capacities, intake and exhaust valve-clearance/shim-selection charts, bearing clearances, wear limits and electrical test values such as coolant-temperature-sensor resistance. The routine maintenance chart organizes inspection, adjustment and replacement work by elapsed time and mileage.
Work on the pressurized fuel and cooling systems and brake hydraulics requires the manual’s system-specific safety precautions and appropriate workshop equipment.
