Publication Set and Model Coverage
Yamaha split the 1993 AE/AEC service information into two companion volumes. The eight-chapter main service manual handles general information, specifications, periodic inspection and adjustment, engine overhaul, cooling-system repair, conventional chassis work, electrical systems, and symptom-based troubleshooting. A separate four-chapter Service Manual - New Features contains the systems that distinguish the GTS platform: EFI, ABS, and the single-sided swingarm front suspension. Both carry LIT-11616-09-22 / 4HH-28197-21 and are identified as 1st Edition, November 1993.
The package also contains the earlier GTS1000/GTS1000A service manual, 4BH-28197-20, 1st Edition, September 1992, plus the AF/AFC supplementary manual, LIT-11616-09-19 / 4HH-28197-22. Yamaha states that the AF/AFC supplement is not a standalone repair manual; it must be used with both AE/AEC volumes for complete service procedures.

Several front-suspension cautions are unusually important. Removing the steering-tube boot can allow the tube to overextend and release its internal bearings. Pressing on a ball-joint rubber boot can force out the grease packing and require ball-joint replacement. During front-shock removal, the lower swingarm must remain supported; allowing it to drop fully can damage the knuckle-arm ball joints.
High-pressure fuel work, ABS hydraulic testing, brake bleeding, and gas-charged shock service require correct support, pressure control, and electrical test practices. The publications assume solid motorcycle repair knowledge; unfamiliar procedures should be evaluated by a qualified technician before work begins.
