Model Identification and Version Differences

The D volume lists starting frame and engine number 4BF-000101, with starting VIN JYA4BFW0*NA000101 for USA and Australia machines.

The E volume lists starting frame and engine number 4BF-007101, with starting VIN JYA4BFT0*PA007101 for Australia and New Zealand machines.

Piston specifications: At the specified measuring point 15 mm from the skirt's bottom edge, D-model piston diameter is 66.742–66.757 mm, with standard piston clearance of 0.055–0.060 mm and zero piston offset. E-model diameter is 66.752–66.767 mm, with 0.045–0.050 mm clearance and a 0.5 mm intake-side offset.

The piston-and-cylinder matching charts help select the appropriate piston size for each version. Cooling-capacity figures, ignition-timing dimensions, and spoke-nipple torque entries also differ between the volumes.

Engine Inspection and Fuel-System Detail

Cylinder and piston inspection data includes bore limits, piston-pin measurements, installed ring end gaps, crankshaft runout, and connecting-rod clearances. The crankcase procedure warns that forcing the case halves or hammering the crankshaft can damage the mating surfaces or crankshaft.

The carburetor tables identify the 6DHY40-3 jet needle and N-8 needle jet, alongside main, pilot, and starter-jet specifications. Fuel and lubrication information distinguishes normal premix from break-in mixtures and periodic transmission-oil changes from total oil capacity.

Suspension, Brakes, and Service Limits

Yamaha recommends dealer fork service; its handling notes address trapped air and warn that bottoming the inner tube during seal removal can damage the oil-lock piece.

Electrical Fault Finding and Yamaha Tools

The ignition sequence checks spark gap, connections, the engine-stop switch, ignition-coil windings, CDI magneto pickup and charging coils, and the CDI unit. These checks provide a way to investigate a no-spark condition before concluding that the CDI unit is at fault.

Examples of Ignition Test Values and Engine Fastener Torques

For both versions, ignition-coil inspection specifies primary resistance of 0.56–0.84 Ω and secondary resistance of 5.7–8.5 kΩ, both measured at 20°C (68°F). The electrical sections pair these values with test connections and fault-finding charts.

The engine torque tables distinguish cylinder-head nuts at 22 Nm from cylinder nuts at 28 Nm. Separate entries cover studs and other fasteners, so the component and fastener type remain part of the specification.
