Yamaha produced these manuals primarily for its dealers and qualified mechanics; anyone using them is expected to understand motorcycle repair fundamentals and have the correct service tools. Removal, inspection, assembly, adjustment, and troubleshooting sections follow the factory format, with exploded views and job charts linking component identification to the related procedure.

Publication and Model Coverage

The model codes provide the clearest fitment check because the supplements update changed systems and refer back to earlier books for unchanged repair procedures.

How the Supplements Fit Together

The 2003 book updates specifications plus starting and lighting circuits. The 2004 supplement adds cable routing, revised front-brake information, and the immobilizer system, including key ID registration, self-diagnosis indications, and a parts-replacement matrix. The 2005 TDM900A book is the ABS expansion: it covers front and rear wheel sensors and rotors, the hydraulic unit, brake-hose routing, system bleeding, hydraulic-unit operation tests, ABS ECU and fail-safe relay checks, malfunction-code retrieval and deletion, and a final trial run.

The 2003-2005 supplements are not stand-alone publications. Each explicitly calls for the earlier Yamaha manuals listed in its foreword, and those referenced manual numbers are included here. The 2007 publication is a full service manual for both the standard TDM900 and ABS-equipped TDM900A rather than another short supplement.

Repair and Diagnostic Depth

The engine sections cover the 897cc liquid-cooled DOHC parallel twin through internal repair, including valve-pad selection, cam timing, cylinder-head inspection, piston and ring limits, oil-pump service, clutch repair, crankcase work, connecting rods, balancer shafts, and the six-speed constant-mesh transmission. Factory assembly data includes the torque-plus-angle cylinder-head sequence, Plastigauge oil-clearance checks, and color-coded crankshaft-journal and big-end bearing selection.

Cooling and fuel-system chapters add radiator pressure testing, thermostat and water-pump inspection, fuel-tank and pump removal, fuel-pressure testing, and air-induction checks. Electrical coverage is divided into ignition, starting, charging, lighting, signaling, cooling-fan, fuel-pump, FI, immobilizer, and ABS circuits, each with relevant component tests and fault tracing.

Reference drawings include lubrication-system charts, cooling-system diagrams, FI circuit diagrams, immobilizer system and circuit diagrams, the ABS block diagram and connector-location chart, and full model-specific wiring diagrams. The fuel-tank section warns against resting the tank on the fuel-pump installation face, where improper handling can damage the mounting surface. The ABS chapters flag another easy-to-miss repair risk: metal contact or debris at a wheel-sensor electrode can damage the sensor or its inner rotor.
