Model Differences and Tune-Up Data

All three use single-cylinder 2-stroke torque-induction engines with a 7-port cylinder, reed-valve intake, and Yamaha Autolube. The opening chapter covers frame and engine serial-number locations, general and maintenance specifications, nomenclature, common shop tools, periodic maintenance intervals, and lubrication schedules.

Model-specific tables distinguish the Mikuni VM22SS, VM24SH, and VM24SS carburetors, final-drive ratios, wheel and tire sizes, and battery capacities. Tuning procedures also cover brake, drive-chain, steering-head, and clutch adjustment, plus foam air-cleaner service.

Ignition-timing setup uses a Yamaha dial gauge and point checker, with separate instructions for the DT125A automatic-advance mechanism and model-specific breaker-point specifications.

Engine and Transmission Overhaul

During clutch reassembly, omitted or misplaced thrust washers or thrust bearings allow the clutch boss to rub directly on the primary driven gear and impair clutch action.

The DT100A and DT175A chapter deals with the 6V flywheel magneto, ignition, AC/DC lighting circuits, charging output, silicon rectifier, 6V 4Ah battery, and switches.

The DT125A chapter covers its 12V starter-dynamo as both starter and generator. Brush and commutator inspection, armature and field-coil checks, voltage-regulator and cutout-relay testing, and 12V 7Ah battery service receive separate attention.

For DT125A dynamo output testing, the manual warns that excessive engine speed can damage the coil and lead wiring.
