Mitsubishi Manual Features & Content Preview

  • Coverage: Factory service information for the 2000-2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse and Eclipse Spyder in the North American market, including Eclipse RS, GS, and GT and Spyder GS and GT configurations with the 2.4L 4G64 or 3.0L 6G72 engine. Supplied as 39 PDFs totaling 3,160 pages.
  • Documents engine removal and internal repair for both powerplants, including cylinder-head and valve work, camshafts and rocker arms, lash-adjuster checks and bleeding, oil pumps, pistons, connecting rods, crankshafts, and timing-belt service; the 4G64 section also covers its balance-shaft belt.
  • Covers the F5M42 and F5M51 five-speed manual transaxles and F4A42 and F4A51 four-speed automatic transaxles, with clutch service, hydraulic bleeding, unit removal, internal disassembly and reassembly, gear and synchronizer inspection, clutch-pack and valve-body overhaul, end-play selection, and differential repair.
  • Provides separate 4G64 and 6G72 MFI diagnostics with DTC procedures, fail-safe tables, symptom charts, scan-tool data lists, actuator tests, ECM/PCM terminal checks, fuel-pressure testing, and oscilloscope waveform diagnosis.
  • Chassis coverage includes drive shafts and hubs, front and rear wheel alignment, struts and multi-link rear suspension, hydraulic power-steering pressure tests and bleeding, disc and drum brake repair, plus ABS and TCL code diagnosis, actuator testing, and hydraulic-unit checks.
  • Body and equipment procedures include bonded glass, doors and power windows, keyless-entry code registration, sunroof service, Spyder convertible-top diagnosis and fit adjustment, R-134a A/C charging and performance tests, and SRS/post-collision diagnosis.
  • Electrical support includes component and control-unit locations, Eclipse and Spyder harness-configuration views, 118 indexed splice locations, and circuit diagrams for systems such as MFI, INVECS-II with and without Sport Mode, ABS with and without TCL, SRS with and without side airbags, immobilizer, and the convertible top.

Factory Repair Depth by Configuration

This is a factory service-manual set, not an owner's handbook or a maintenance-only guide. The procedures extend from fault isolation and on-vehicle testing through removal, inspection, disassembly, reassembly, adjustment, and operational checks. Its scan-tool diagnostics, press work, and internal engine and transaxle repair content make it best suited to professional technicians and experienced owners with the required workshop equipment; Mitsubishi directs SRS component service to authorized dealer personnel.

Configuration labels matter throughout the set. Engine procedures are separated for the SOHC 4G64 inline-four and SOHC 6G72 V6, while ECM paths for manual-transaxle vehicles are distinguished from PCM paths for automatic-transaxle vehicles. The automatic-transaxle material also separates Sport Mode and non-Sport Mode circuits. Diagnostic sections tie connector numbers and terminal views to the circuit, harness, component-location, and splice diagrams rather than leaving electrical tests as stand-alone specifications.

Factory Tools, Specifications, and Service Cautions

Special-tool tables identify MMC numbers, supersessions, and applications. Examples include the MB991502 MUT-II scan tool for DTC, data-list, and actuator work; MD998767 for timing-belt tension; MD998442 for lash-adjuster bleeding; and MB991631/MB991632 clearance dummy plates for F4A42/F4A51 brake end-play measurement. The automatic-transaxle section also calls out the MD998330 pressure gauge and MB995062 cooler-flushing tool, while SRS circuit testing specifies the MB991613 check harness.

The repair cautions are assembly-specific. During engine removal, the manual warns that removing the identified flywheel mounting bolt can throw the flywheel out of balance and damage it. In the automatic-transaxle overhaul, removing the valve body before the manual-control-lever nut can damage the park/neutral position switch.

Covered groups provide component-specific torque tables, fluid capacities and lubricant requirements, pressure-test data, inspection limits, clearances, adjustment values, sealants, and electrical test specifications. General information also includes VIN/model-code identification, towing and hoisting points, scheduled maintenance, and normal-versus-severe-service tables.

Supplied-Set Scope

The supplied package does not contain the Group 13C Fuel Supply section, Group 36 Parking Brakes section, Group 54 Chassis Electrical sections, or the separate alphabetical index referenced by its factory contents pages. Fuel-pressure and injector diagnosis, basic brake repair, and 284 pages of circuit diagrams are present elsewhere in the set, but the missing groups are not replaced by those related sections. Manual-transaxle coverage includes vehicle removal and installation for both engine applications plus internal F5M42/F5M51 overhaul. Buyers who need the omitted chapters or model-year coverage beyond 2002 should select a different or supplemental publication.
